CNET Editors' review
For users who have password protection on their Mac, looking at the same old log-in screen may become boring after a while. With Loginox for Mac you can now change your log-in background in a matter of seconds. This app allows you to replace the Apple logo on your log-in page, too.
Available as freeware, Loginox for Mac supports the most common image file formats such as JPG, TIF, PNG, and PSD. This application is a straightforward OS X app that is small in size, easy to install, and easy to use. You simply have to drag and drop your image into the main window and the app will change the log-in screen to the desired image. If the image provided isn't in the right aspect ratio, the app will automatically crop the image. To revert back to the default background you just have to press the "reset to the default image" button. The app allows you to change the Apple logo on the log-in screen, too. The steps are basically the same as changing the log-in screen. There's also an option to completely remove the Apple logo from the log-in screen.
Users who love to personalize their Macs will appreciate Loginox for Mac. Since the app is very easy to use, it's suitable for both experts and beginners who wish to tweak their Mac's log-in screen.
Publisher's Description
From Omid Pajuhideh:
Loginox is an application which lets you easily customize the login screen. If your Mac is password protected, the first screen you see after starting up is the login screen. This screen contains the default image of Mac OS X, which can get boring after a while. Use Loginox to change the login background image or the login logo with a single Drag-and-Drop. Why navigate through all the folders on your hard disk? Drag a JPG or PNG image from anywhere and drop it into the main window of Loginox.
A simple click on the Set new Login image button will change the login background image. The login logo can be changed in the same way. Choose the tab Login logo and drop a JPG, TIF, PNG or PSD image into the New Login image frame. A simple click on the Set new Login logo button will change the login logo. For switching back to the Mac OS X default login background image or login logo click on the Reset button in the corresponding tab.
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard: the image size of the default image is 2560 x 1600 and has a ratio 8/5. You can prepare your images with Sizerox to have the right dimension and ratio for your customized login screen.
Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion: the image size of the login screen will be automatically adjusted. If the image ratio does not fit, the image will be cropped in the suitable size. However you can prepare your images withSizerox to resize them for your customized login screen and logo.
What's new in this version:
- Compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 - Mac OS X 10.8.
- Support for retina display.
- Minor changes.

"Does what it says, without hassle."
Version: Loginox 1.0.2b7
Pros
Simple, intuitive, fast.
Cons
Doesn't offer dual-screen option (which might be an OS implementation limitation).
Summary
I have to respect any developer willing and able to slap a relatively idiot-proof GUI on what would otherwise be a tricky and possibly dangerous operation. Not that one is THAT likely to screw their System files up doing this the hard way, but the fact is that it involves mucking about in parts of the System ? that we are not supposed to muck about in.
However, it would be nice to specify a separate pic for each screen. I understand that Snow Leopard?in all its greatness?may be lacking in implementing this, but I have to wonder if there's a way to patch it in. As more and more people switch to MacBooks and their Pro brethren, I expect more people to be working in a dual-screen environment?at least at home. -

"I have tried it and I like it"
Version: Loginox 1.0.1b1

Very nice idea on my opinion. I like it. Would be nice if the app could support multiple image formats. Maybe the developer should make the user clear that only JPEG files are allowed until now.

"really slowed my system"
Version: Loginox 1.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Running 10.5.3 on an Intel Imac: installed easily. After loading I changed the login screen and restarted. System took almost 3 minutes to restart. Tried a logout and the image had changed properly, but again system was very slow. I used loginox to return to original image and removed loginox from the system. Restart was very fast but I lost all my "login items" from the system preferences. Program needs to be checked, as it wasn't really smooth on my Imac.
