• Easy and powerful!

  Pros

  The language is extremely simple compare to, per example, c++ or assembler. Yet, you canprogram almost anything. What else could you want eh?

  Cons

  The program is not compile but rather converted to a file witch is then interpreted and the programs you create with Liberty Basic are slow. Still, it is the best language for learning programming.

  Im not seriously into programming, but I learned the basics of it in a school course and downloaded liberty basic. Its good for begginers, with good support and a great tutorial <p> <p>Ive done some fun things like generating a number over 30,000 digits long.

  Cons

  I think that if you are seriously into programming, this isn't for you. You can't create standalone applications or large programs with this.

  Everything is great you can create advanced database,school,bussines etc... applications <p>there is not a single bad thing about it. <p>If you experience any problems goto libertybasic.conforums.com and there you get all the help you need. This is seriusly the best basic compiler. <p>SIX STARRRR RATING FROM ME

  I purchased 4.03 in early June and immeadiately had compiler problems. I started e-mailing Carl Gundel (the owner and author) on 06/15 and initially got a few responses. The problem was never resolved (I've sent 5 more e-mails which have been ignored) and I can't compile my code making this product useless to me.

• A great language for the beginner, hobbiest, and everybody.

  Liberty BASIC has the gentlest learning curve of any language that I've ever tried. It was the first programming language I used, and the tutorial allowed me to teach myself to program computers. <p>It was a great starting point, but after a couple of years I was ready to add more complex languages. I learned and regularly use several other languages, but eight and a half years later, I STILL use Liberty BASIC every day! It's easy to learn, but powerful enough to expand and do almost anything. <p>I feel so strongly about this product that I've written software and learning/reference materials to support it, including an add-on IDE, electronic books, and a monthly technical journal called the Liberty BASIC Newsletter. The newsletter is published by a whole team of avid LB programmers. I also own a very active forum for LB programming, which I administer with help from many other dedicated LB programmers, and from the author of the language, Carl Gundel. Carl is very available to support his product and to listen to user requests. <p>It just doesn't get any better!

• Great for Beginning and Experienced Programmers

  As an educator, I am always looking for visual tools that will keep the entire class engaged during a lecture. Power Point was great for slide presentations, but I wanted something capable of user interaction and random events. Enter Liberty BASIC. The tutorial was sequenced well enough to allow me to create “My First GUI Window” that very evening. The ability to use sprites for animation allows for great visual effects. As well as the just-a-click-away, indexed tutorial, there are also dozens of small demos to give hands on learning for just about every available control and command. And if you’re still stuck, there are at least two forums where your questions are answered – always within hours and quite often within minutes of posting. The support and enthusiasm for this product speaks more than I could say. I am finding Liberty BASIC not only easy but fun to learn. I love the fact that I can make standalone games and tutorials for my students to take home. I highly recommend Liberty BASIC for anyone who is interested in programming.

• The truth behind Liberty Basic

  1 ) First of all make no mistake about it, this is a beginner language. You only get the most basic Windows controls. Worst yet, each control has just 1 event that it can respond to ( the click event most likely ) and just 1 or 2 properties ( like color ) that you can set. This limits you to the most basic of programs. <p> <p>2 ) Syntax is difficult to learn and use. Don't plan on remembering proper LB coding easily: you'll always have to go back to the user manual to look at the proper syntax. To put it simply, Liberty Basic syntax has been optimized to make it easier for the compiler to read source code and generate executable, not to make it easier for the programmer to write code. <p> <p>3 ) Liberty Basic executables require a large number of runtime files to work. Currently you have to distribute 7 additional files with your compiled source code for an additional overhead of 1.5 MB. That means even the most basic of programs ( just a simple window ) need this overhead of 1.5 MB to work properly. If you plan on distributing your program on the internet, this can be a huge disadvantage. <p> <p>4 ) You'll find the compiler messages very difficult to decypher. This can be a huge negative for the beginner who wants to learn Liberty BASIC. <p> <p>5 ) lacks a GUI designer. Read next item. <p> <p>6 ) Total Cost of Ownership: <p> <p> Before investing in Liberty Basic, keep these 3 points in mind: <p> <p> A ) Silver license costs $29.95 but if you want to freely distribute your programs without giving away your source code( who doesn't?), you'll have to buy the Gold license for $49.95 <p> B ) lacks a GUI designer. So if you want to build Windows GUI programs, you either have to hand code your interface( which is difficult ) or purchase a separate program which the LB author advertises for an additional $20.00. <p> <p> C ) Liberty Basic has a help file which provides minimal information for a new programmer on LB features and syntax. Have to buy an e-book advertised by the author for an additional $20.00. <p> <p>Your total cost $90.00.
