CNET Editors' review
In response to Need for Speed Underground, Acclaim presents Juiced, an urban-racing title that lets gamers design and race customized cars through tight city streets. The demo provides an excellent preview of the racing action, if not the customization features. We enjoyed learning the driving mechanics and basic racing tactics, but with no instructions, we wondered what gameplay we were missing.
This demo has an excellent look and feel, but it's up to you to learn how to play. Driving is driving, of course, and most players will figure out the basic controls: Up, down, left, and right control your car; the R key resets you in the middle of the track, facing forward; V changes your view; and the spacebar shows the rear-view mirror. Though we couldn't figure out how to boost speed with the nitrous or take short turns with the hand brake, those controls may just be part of the game we couldn't find. The track details, from spectators to soaring jets, are superb, and the driving has a gritty intensity that Need for Speed Underground lacks. The lack of documentation is frustrating, but racing modded coupes on the San Ricardo track remains good fun.
Publisher's Description
From Acclaim Entertainment:
Juiced gives you the opportunity to go from artist to overdrive and test your mettle online in one of the best head-to-head racing experiences ever brought to next-generation platforms. Juiced is all about the car, and style comes in a close second to speed. The game offers thousands of real-time modding combinations that empower players to create their ultimate personality-infused street machines. Go up against the trash-talking, nitrous-burning faithful who want to strip everyone of their cash, cars, and pride. Juiced lets players connect with their communities and share the high-octane action by recruiting drivers to become part of their crews and race as a team to put the brakes on the competition.
This demo for Juiced features the San Ricardo racetrack and three cars from the retail game.
