Version: Java for the Beginning Programmer 1.1

"Examples of java programs from 'hello world' to simple dialogs."

Pros: + Free
+ Simple examples
+ If you've got programming skills, this example programs can be all that you need to write your own java-code.

Cons: - May be used in own programs, but may not be published (but the examples are so simple, that the copyright is a little over the top).
- Learning Java via an on-line course (google 'learn java online') is probably easier still...
