This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Had to write in praise of this app. I'm not a programmer and only wanted to fix a broken java script so one of my gmail extensions would work again. It was intuitive and easy to figure out. I pasted in the new script from the developer's site and saved it, (after having to change read/write permissions in the get info box on the .jar file) - it worked first time. I'm impressed.

I cannot praise enough this piece of software. 10 stars out of 5!! One tip: when dragging jar/war/... files onto the dock icon, if the program is not active, you could get erraneous behaviour. Solution: just have the jar inspector active before dragging (open the application).

Thanks to the developer (Christoph Gerdes) for doing a great job. In addition to the jar file viewer and decompiling of class files, I particularly like the interation with TextWrangler and other editors). Of course no tool is ever perfect, and my suggestions for this one are that it would be nice to be able to browse the source code in a split-pane, below the list of classes, (like a mail browser) rather than having to open a new window for each decompiled source view. Also it would be nice if PNG, GIF and JPEG images could be previewed too, and maybe an option to render HTML, and not just show the source, would be nice.

Its integrated editor enables you to modify the Manifest, web.xml etc.. without extracting and rebuilding the entire archive.
