Hola Better Internet is the Android app for Hola, the free multiplatform VPN service that lets users watch geoblocked videos in their countries. It comprises two utilities: the Unblocker, which changes the IP that identifies your geographic location, and the Accelerator, which smoothes out media streaming and playback and can even reduce data consumption.
Hola is unusually easy to use for a VPN service, and Hola Better Internet continues the theme. The main screen has only three toggles for Hola, the Unblocker, and the Accelerator. But tap "Help" and then "FAQ," and you'll find an extensive manual covering everything from how Hola VPN works to Troubleshooting and Feedback (most pages have FAQ links, too). Following instructions, we opened the Unblocker, downloaded the video player for the blocked station we wanted to view (this might require allowing unsigned apps), and then pressed "Unblock." We selected the country hosting the blocked site, adding the site to the Unblocked list on Hola's My Settings page. Switching geolocations or restoring your home location is as easy as clicking the appropriate flag. You can access sites directly from your list, too. We then opened the player, tapped "Skip" for our undetectable postal code, and started watching high-quality streaming videos that previously had been blocked.
Hola Better Internet's Accelerator uses smart caching to reduce data use significantly (some 20-30 percent after a few weeks of use, or so it has claimed) and also smooths streaming media. It works well and is fairly easy to get the hang of, so if you're missing some of your favorite media in other regions, this app can help.
