In the age of broadband, there aren't many reasons to not be able to smoothly control your primary PC from a remote computer. GoToMyPC fills that niche, with an automatic install and quick registration process, crossplatform functionality, handheld device and multiple monitor support, and AES 128-bit encryption.
But in the age of freeware, GoToMyPC only offers a free 30-day trial. After that, you're looking at $20 per month for one PC or $30 for two, with each additional PC an extra $15 per month and 25 percent discounts for yearly subscriptions. That's not cheap.
The app itself works well. We were able to control our home computer from the office, and vice versa, with no problems. You connect by going to the GoToMyPC Web site and logging in. A window then opens, bordered in Medusa-esque green, which emulates the screen of the remote PC. Programs on the remote all open within the green border, with some extra remote functions included in the border itself. You can restart the remote computer (and lose the connection), send and sync files, print, and adjust the remote window size, among other tasks.
Everything the program said it would do, it did. And that's a beautiful and rare thing. The cost is a deterrent, though, especially when the competition is offering up better deals.

Summary
Though we have tried various alternatives, we have stayed with GoToMyPC for many years.
Yes, you need to pay for a subscription, but for a service with such high performance and such well-implemented features, it more than pays for itself in time savings and absence of annoyances.
The responsiveness of mouse, keyboard and screen refreshes make all the difference when you are trying to get work done in a hurry. We haven't found a service that beats GoToMyPC on performance. Since their developers invented Windows remote control many years ago (and licensed their technology to Microsoft), it makes sense that they know how to optimize this technology.
Another big advantage is that you can sit at any PC on the Internet and connect securely to a PC back at home or at the office very quickly: no installation, no settings to waste your time, just login and connect. -

Pros
I can view and operate my home office pc at my work location, using my ipad. Virtual mouse works surprisingly well on touchscreen, and I can do everything I would be able to do at my pc, including creating and editing docs, printing, and even using email (gmail) features that won't work on ipad alone. LOVE IT!

Summary
This is the solution I've been looking for ever since I acquired my iPad. It has saved me from 1) having to learn a whole bunch of new software and 2) having to transfer all my business files to said new software. Hint: Bluetooth keyboard for iPad and wireless printer make it perfect!
