Difficult to use, no documentation.
freak740- Pros
- Useful for tracking time-to-finish on projects.
- Cons
- Controls and procedures are non-intuitive, and there is no manual or help file included with the software. Changes made to the timeline are sometimes randomly reverted for no apparent reason. There appears to be no easy way to update the starting date of a task (for example, to the actual vs planned start date), as the program wants to revert dates to match the earliest end of all predecessors. Some functions appear unfinished, such as handling of public holidays. The dialog for adding a holiday seems incomplete, and tasks are shown as continuing/occurring during the holiday dates.
- Summary
- The lack of documentation and the sometimes inconsistent behavior of the software leads to frustration. The charts are useful, but to-date I have spent more time fighting the program than it would have taken to draw out a gantt chart on graph paper. I will be pursuing an alternative program for future use.
serious flaw
barryvo- Pros
- easy to use. Free.
- Cons
- Has trouble printing. You need to export a PNG and print THAT.
- Summary
- You would think that a piece of software whose main purpose is to create a chart would be able to PRINT that chart. Not so. For me, that's a serious flaw. If you just want to look at charts on a screen, it's great.
Very, very basic.
billrosenblatt- Pros
- If you are used to MS Project, then you will find this very easy to use.
- Cons
- Severely limited functionality makes it run out of gas quickly. For example, no way to collapse or expand the time scale of the view. This makes it unusable for project that last more than a few weeks. Similarly, task durations must be entered in days, not weeks or months.
- Summary
- You get what you pay for.
better than MS Project for gantts and free!
arrozconleche- Pros
- All the gantt features you could want. Resonably stable Runs on any platform.
- Cons
- Some of the features are not intuitive, e.g. you use the middle mouse to drag a task left or right.
- Summary
- Great alternative to MS Project if you are on a budget, or need cross platform (i.e. Mac) support.
OK Alternative to MS Project
alkeerdoon- Pros
- Light weight, OS agnostic, Free, Can convert projects to MS Project
- Cons
- No calendar functionality, limited Help pages, automated date dependencies can be frustrating.
- Summary
- A free and reasonably capable alternative to MS Project. Lacks some functionality I find useful, but works well enough for smaller projects or when I am limited to a Linux machine.
Won't work for me
rnfriends- Pros
- I seems to have some good capabilities for creating Gantt charts, but not what I need.
- Cons
- I couldn't find any way to change the timeline to display months instead of days or weeks. I wanted to use it for preparing a marketing calendar and need a monthly overview, so it doesn't work for me.
- Summary
- See cons.
Does what it says on the tin!
Tom59- Pros
- This is a very useful application. It is not difficult to use as there are no "fancy bits" on it. The layout is very clean and uncluttered.
- Cons
- The Help pages are very sparse, but as it is so user friendly, you should not need to resort to the help section.
- Summary
- I would definitely recommend this download.
