These runtime libraries need to be downloaded and installed in order to run the main program, The Gimp. Install GTK+ Runtime Environment before installing The Gimp.
The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a freely distributed piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It is a powerful piece of software with capabilities not found in any other free software product. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, and an image format converter.

"Needed for Pidgin and The GIMP."
Pros: This non-intruding software is installed as a runtime to start programs that needs it such as Pidgin and The Gimp. The file size is very small, and it doesn't crash. Having this runtime is one of the greatest things that happened to me, especially having to use Pidgin! The best thing about it is that it's not big like .NET Framework required to run Paint.NET, or annoying like Sun Java (required to run OpenOffice and LimeWire.)

"Have not had time to use this software yet I just downloaded it Yesterday,"
Pros: Not sure yet way to soon to tell what is good or bad about the software since I just downloaded it late yesterday and have not had time to use it yet.
Cons: CNET asking for my review so quickly after just downloading late yesterday, more time with the software to tell what I really like or not I also need to get some Digital Pictures and other Photo's and projects before I will actually know how this works.

"GIMP 2.4 now includes this software, no need to download separately"
Pros: (Previous GIMP versions needed this separately, it's now included in GIMP 2.4)
