Disclosure up front: we've played and been addicted to Fruit Ninja for a couple of years now! The goal of Fruit Ninja sounds weird: you get a bunch of fruit tossed up on the screen and you have to slice each one in half with a swipe of your finger (which represents a blade). Miss three fruits and you die. Slice a bomb instead of a fruit, and you die. Successfully slice enough fruit and you get one mistake wiped off your record. Very simple. And fiendishly addictive fun.
Fruit Ninja installs quickly. The paid app is very reasonable at 99 cents for the amount of time you'll get out of this game. The interface lets you choose several modes, from arcade to timed to a more casual version. Get points and cash them in for better knives and backgrounds, although there's not really that much difference to them other than bragging rights. The graphics are cute and the sound effects are interesting and add to the experience.
Although you might think the premise of the game doesn't sound so addictive, one try at Fruit Ninja will convince you otherwise. A quick time-waster when you have a minute or two or a prolonged record-setting session are equally enjoyable. Fruit Ninja is one of the more popular apps on iDevices, with more than 10 million copies sold, and it won't take you long to figure out why once you play.
