Publisher's description of FreeStrike

From JDS Games:

You are Cadet John Blake, and reports are showing some activity in the newly established free zones bordering the outer regions of the Earth Alliance Defense Grid. These areas were established to promote free commerce and attract new members to the Alliance. A new resistance group has formed and they are stirring up trouble. Known as the New Space Resistance (NSR), they are considered extremely hostile and you are authorized to neutralize this threat by any means necessary. You've been assigned to patrol zones one through seven. Your mission is called Operation FreeStrike, and you will pilot the LRTD-50X.

Version 1.3 fixes a few miscellaneous program features, a fix for the high-score server, and adds some enhancements to the user-interface. You can post your comments and or suggestions from within the game.

  • "FreeStrike"
  • Version reviewed: FreeStrike 1.3
A few minutes playing FreeStrike, and between rounds you ll be groping in your pocket for quarters. It s that close to classic coin-operated scrollers such as Raiden and 1942. Waves of enemy ships come in from every side, asteroids tumble by, and you're shooting everything in sight, trying to blast enemies, collect power-ups, and keep your shields a notch above zero. Ah, good times. The graphics are a notch above servicable, but the retro arcade sound and humorous voice effects are a lot of fun. Performance is FreeStrike s main problem. The animations often stutter, even on a 3.2GHz machine. The trial version offers only one level, which even an average gamer quickly will beat at the highest difficulty setting. The $9.95 price is reasonable, but one-time arcade wizards can find better-executed games with which to relive their glory days.
