Free Internet Eraser by Cybertron Software is a security utility that removes stored traces from browsers, the operating system, and installed applications. It performs Privacy Cleaning by scanning selected areas, identifying stored artifacts such as cache files, cookies, typed URLs, and session records, then removing them through targeted deletion routines.

Free Internet Eraser also includes Secure Data Deletion, which overwrites selected files using defined pass methods before removal. It integrates Third-Party App Support through a plugin system that maps known storage paths of supported software. Additional modules such as System Tools extend functionality to registry entries, startup processes, and storage space.

Clean your tracks

The program makes quick work of traces you've left in Windows and from the Internet: Temporary files, your list of recently used documents, Open/Save history, Internet Explorer cache, and lists of visited sites and typed URLs. Plug-ins to clean up traces left by other applications (ICQ, MSN Messenger) are available in the paid version only.

The program can perform automatic cleanup at regular intervals (on every start-up or shutdown, for example, or on a timer).

An average user is unlikely to need permanent deletion algorithms (scrambling filenames or overwriting with random numbers), but then again, only the paranoiacs survive. This free utility's advanced features are disabled unless you pay for the upgrade. However, even hamstrung, it offers capabilities sufficient for most active surfers.

Free Internet Eraser’s simple interface and customizable scheduling make it a convenient tool for casual users who want to maintain basic privacy. In addition to its core functions, the program supports cleaning activity from third-party browsers and applications in the paid version, broadening its usability for those using tools beyond Internet Explorer. This flexibility can be particularly useful as more users migrate to newer or alternative browsers like Chrome or Firefox.

However, some users might find the lack of advanced free features, such as secure deletion and broader application support, a limitation. Secure deletion is especially relevant for those handling sensitive information who want to ensure that deleted data is unrecoverable.

For users requiring such capabilities, alternatives like CCleaner offer a more robust suite of free tools, including secure file deletion, real-time system monitoring, and multi-browser support. CCleaner also includes additional utilities, such as a registry cleaner, making it more versatile for system optimization.

The program removes traces from desktop and modern browsers, including Google Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, and Safari, clearing cache, cookies, and system logs through predefined cleaning rules. It now includes secure deletion using overwrite methods such as zero-fill, DoD, and Gutmann. Plugin-based support extends cleaning to third-party applications, while additional tools handle registry entries, startup items, and free space wiping.
