    Pros

There are no Pros, the product didn't work.

"Download from main website, not CNET"

    March 26, 2014   |   By Jason_995

    Version: FileSearchEX 1.0.8.7

    Pros

Works very well and does search PDF files which is what I really wanted.

    Cons

CNET hosts the outdated and expired version. You must download from the main website for FileSearchEX.

    "Absolutely the best!"

    February 28, 2014   |   By Rod1128

    Version: FileSearchEX 1.0.8.3

    Pros

Simple. Blazingly fast. Perfect search results everytime. Streamlined and intuitive user interface that's simple enough that reading the manual is not really required. Developer is responsive to questions and input.

    Cons

None that I can think of.

    Summary

I've tried quite a few search utilities and FileSearchEX is, in my opinion, the best. Has never let me down and I consider it a 'must have' tool.

"Huge improvement over native Vista/Win7 search."

    March 10, 2012   |   By RobertWFrei

    Version: FileSearchEX 1.0.8.3

    Pros

Finds the files the native search misses.
Gives opportunity to filter results BEFORE doing the search - no wasted time and effort.
When search criteria changes, it does not automatically limit to a subset of the first search.
    It is fast.
Works well even when searching multi-terabyte drives.
Works amazingly fast even when searching through more than half a million files.
Searches remote drives almost as quickly - much more quickly than the native search.
Integrates with the right-click menu. Nice!

    Cons

All the "cons" are fully understandable. It cannot update the display when files are changed, but if it did, it would drag down the overall system performance the way Microsoft's search does. When we want the display updated, we have that power with just 1 click.

    Summary

If Microsoft sticks with its story that it cannot implement the W2K/XP search utility in Vista/Win7, then maybe Microsoft needs to hire FileSearchEX's programmer.

Note - I am a tough grader - a four star is great. A 5-star from me would indicate there is no reasonable room for improvement.

    Updated on Mar 10, 2012

I just tested again using a 2tb drive mounted as the "D" drive on an onboard SATA port on a of a Vista Home Premium machine with quad-core processor and 8gb of RAM. I did the XP search from an XP machine attached via ethernet. The native search was done from Windows explorer on the same machine on which the drive is mounted. The FileSearchEX was run from the same Vista machine. Results follow:
    Native: 202,546 files/directories found
    FSEX..: 222,311 files/directories found
    XP....: 223,259 files/directories found
Bear in mind that these results are all from searching the very same drive. Native missed 20,713 files, FSEX only missed 948. I suspect these missing 948 files were mostly files stored in ZIP files on that drive.
