Version: Ffdshow 2004
"near lossless very high quality decompression codecs"
Pros: to use it download, run the setup and install, then restart you computer and then you will probvably never have to touch this again, most good media players route out the required decoding software when you try and play a file, so i like the ease of use and the fact that its maintenance free.

Version: Ffdshow 2004
Pros: Been using it for years and is the only decoder I have ever needed. I researched many codecs before deciding on this one on the advice of many who know more than myself. I've never had a problem with it and its stingy on resources. Despite what other reviews say, there is no spyware. People should learn more about how codecs work and not download so many as THAT could lead to bad things.
Cons: It hasn't been updated in a while. But it's so good it doesn't need to.
