"Poor support, could not use."

October 10, 2013  |  By GWS100

 |  Version: FaxTalk Messenger Pro 8.0

Pros

The trial software seemed like it would do what we needed.

Cons

When we tried to upgrade, we paid for the software and never received an activation code or link to download the full version. We received the thank you email for downloading the trial version, but nothing else. No emails we sent were ever answered when trying to upgrade. We paid through Paypal and opened a case and we then received a phone call from Peter using a "private number" saying our order was canceled, but so far still have not received a refund for our canceled order.

"The only choice for TalkWorks/WinFax orphans."

April 09, 2013  |  By Satviewer2000

 |  Version: FaxTalk Messenger Pro 8.0

Pros

1. Has look and feel of WinFax/TalkWorks.
2. Updated to work with latest Windows systems.
3. Excellent tech support by seller.
4. Fantastic rule based answering schedule!
5. Relatively inexpensive for what it does.
6. Numerous ways to notify user of important calls/faxes.

Cons

1. "Blind flash hook" does not seem to work?
2. Lack of "multi-tiered mailbox options".
(although I created a work-around for this deficiency).
3. Cannot log incoming calls unless it also answers phone?
4. Cannot notify me by sending a text message to my mobile phone.
5. Cannot attach voice message and send via email?

Summary

Believe it or not, I had been using TalkWorks 3.0 up until recently but finally gave up on it after frequent lockups and other glitches in WinXP (OK, I know it's not even supposed to work with XP but it did work initially). And I was also an avid user of WinFax Pro but started developing numerous problems receiving faxes, although sending them was fine. Anyway, it was time to move on as Symantec/Norton had not provided updates or support for those programs for 10+ years (if it ain't broke, don't fix it is my motto). So I must have tried at least 20 different fax/voice programs, none of which even came close to what I was using before. Then I finally came across this program which not only had a similar look and feel to the Norton programs, making it easy to change over, but was updated to work with all the most recent Windows and hardware. The one thing TalkWorks could do was create "multi-tiered" messages. That is, when you press option one, then you are presented with another subset of options. I managed to create a similar feeling system with this program using 2 number selections. So far it has worked perfectly, for both faxes and for voice messages. I am running a "small business" and this program has probably saved me thousands of dollars. When I asked if the local phone company could provide a similar answering service, they told me yes, at a cost of over $5000 a year! I cannot afford that running a small business! This has been a nearly perfect solution so far. PS: TalkWorks 3.0's "blind flash hook" feature was working with current my phone provider, but for some reason this feature just will not work with FaxTalk, I am not sure why.

"FAILURE TO RESOLVE LONGSTANDING BUGS"

June 20, 2010  |  By fringefrog

 |  Version: FaxTalk Messenger Pro 8.0

Pros

See below for all comments.

Cons

See below for all comments.

Summary

1. Failure to resolve longstanding bugs with the software occurring for years across operating systems, modems and FaxTalk Messenger Pro versions (e.g. video/sound stutter upon lifting the handset; failure to stop recording a message when the handset is lifted, etc.);
2. Version 8 repeatedly crashes the system upon boot when running "as a service?;
3. Phony-baloney advertising/sales inducement tactics (e.g. website?s comparison chart between ancient version 6.0 and current version 8.0, but skipping more recent versions, 7.0 and 7.5, of FaxTalk Messenger Pro); and
4. Slow processing of refunds.

"Easy to use, reminds me of the great Talkworks Pro!"

April 01, 2010  |  By alborgg

 |  Version: FaxTalk Messenger Pro 7.5

Pros

Easy setup, hardwaremodem control, and mailbox control. Interface is clean and reminds me of the venerable Symmantec Talkworks Pro that I loved to use. This is the absolute best telephony software on the market!

Cons

Lacks multiple modem capability.

Summary

The interface is great enough to be the one for my office, even without multiple modem support.

Updated on Apr 5, 2010

I take back the 5 stars and bring it down to 2 stars due to: 1) the software trial has a major bug which will time out after 1 reboot (not 15 days) and 2) the customer service is awful- instead of giving me the deactivation code in less then 4 hours, it's now 3 days and NOTHING, and 3) if you call it's either busy or they simply take a message without calling back! Good program with poor support = BAD program.

"It efficently does the basic things I need done."

January 12, 2008  |  By Walter H

 |  Version: FaxTalk Messenger Pro 7.5

Pros

I like the software, I bought the software. If I could access the help menu I am sure that I would like the program more but I have questions that I cannot get answered by the software and support won't return my email. But once again it will get me my faxes, the fax resolution is great.

Cons

I cannot utilze the help menu, it is not Vista compliant, I have contacted support on this issue and they haven't responded yet, maybe they won't. Can someone email me a Vista compatiable help file

"Good Software - Grief if you try to Upgrade"

December 09, 2007  |  By OregonTrail

 |  Version: FaxTalk Messenger Pro 7.5

Pros

The software since 7.0 so far seems to be a big improvement. It seems more stable and reliable. The program operates well. I don't notice the bugs that plagued 7.0. The trial period is for only 15 days. I am using this under Vista. I've had this since 6.0 through upgrades since that time. They are moving in the right direction.

Cons

Here's where they fall flat on their face. To upgrade, you have to have a previous version installed. I moved from XP to Vista. I had a clean machine. So, I go to reinstall version 7.0 only to find that software wants me to install the version that I had before that. So, their upgrade wants me to install software that is not Vista compatible just to upgrade. If you are doing the upgrade, how about just asking for the license numbers the person has previously held. And, if the company is concerned that there are counterfeit licenses, then do what Microsoft has with their Download Vault - let your customer upgrade from your system with a log in and password. Don't make the user jump through hoops.

What is really disheartening was to get the message that my 15 day trial is over, buying the new software, and getting a message stating that it may take a day to get an e-mail with the serial number for the product.

So, now I have no system to handle calls until I get their e-mail.

So much for customer service.

"A dead product that crashes my system regularly."

May 29, 2007  |  By Randy in CA

 |  Version: FaxTalk Messenger Pro 7

Pros

I've suffered with this product for years because it seemed to be the only option, and when it was working it did a good job of receiving faxes and voice mails, and had a simple and intuitive interface.

Cons

Because it hasn't been updated since 2005, and the on-line support is almost nonexistant (you can't even download the latest patch file on-line,) the publisher clearly is just milking it for whatever they can get out of it. I'd still be using it if it didn't crash my system (even after clean Win XP installs) on a regular basis, and have so many problems with my modems (I've tried several brands, but each one had it's own unique set of problems with FaxTalk.) I recently purchased Venta Fax and Talk and am VERY happy with it -- see my review. It's a much better product all the way around.

"Easy to use"

August 02, 2006  |  By alienn8

 |  Version: FaxTalk Messenger Pro 7

Pros

It's very simple, regardless of what other users are saying. I love the broadcast capabilities. Stable.

Cons

I guess it's downfall is it's simplcity in its design itself. Attaching pictures is not as simple as I hoped, but better than another fax program I used.

"Must be next version of Talkworks."

March 11, 2005  |  By FredTheMan

 |  Version: FaxTalk Messenger Pro 7.0

Pros

I've been using Talkworks for years, but upgraded to XP and it won't work. After trying a few demos I found this one and like it. I wonder if this company purchased the Talkworks software from Symantec.
