"So far, very happy with EverWeb"

May 22, 2014  |  By mississyboodles

 |  Version: EverWeb 1.3.1

Pros

-Includes all the features I liked about iWeb, plus improvements that actually make it more intuitive and easier to use

-Built-in SEO a BIG improvement over having to use iWeb plus Rage's iWeb SEO Tool

-Less template-bound, more flexible as design tool

Cons

So far (after having redone my iWeb site in EverWeb and watched my new site's progress for about two weeks) I haven't noticed any problems.

Summary

This is by far the best WYSIWYG web design software for Mac users that I've been able to track down. If you're familiar with iWeb you'll have no trouble transitioning to EverWeb, though I do recommend watching the basic tutorial videos just to familiarize yourself with it. Basically it's like an updated, improved version of iWeb. I mainly got it because I was tired of seeing my site ranked behind content farms just because search engines hated iWeb. So far, Google does seem to like EverWeb and it's ranking my site about where it was before I started using iWeb. So in terms of ease of use and my goals of reaching my audience, EverWeb has proved to be everything I wanted and I'm very happy with it.

"Why isn't this atop everyone's list?"

March 08, 2014  |  By moore2772

 |  Version: EverWeb 1.2

Pros

Versatile! Can put text and objects literally anywhere and resize, even within templates
Works just like Pages. Very intuitive
Very powerful. Tools allow you do do pretty much whatever you could do with a high end word processor combined with a medium-high end page layout program.
Gradients, shadows, etc. are EASY.
Mobile tools.
Great video tutorials
Inexpensive! $80 or $99 per year including hosting (under $9 a month)
Intuitive interface- very little you have to learn to do. If you can handle Pages, this works the same way.
Very Mac like- none of this Windows leftover stuff.
Best in class
Instant rendering without the need to "preview."
Live alignment guides
Has widget for PayPal e-commerce.

Cons

E-commerce setup is from within PayPal rather than the app, unlike some web-based products.
Could use more templates.
Advanced users might want to be able to use more direct HTML code.

Summary

Since my website was taken down by a university that was hosting it, I had to research simple website creation tools. The choices were over the web- some good, but relatively expensive per month and Mac based standalone products. Some don't support PayPal (I already have a merchant account there) and others do and integrate really well, but you pay for that ease. I tried Sandvox, but quickly became utterly frustrated in what it would not allow me to do. I found Freeway to be difficult to navigate as well as Rapidweaver. EverWeb is as simple to use as Sandvox, but is much, much more versatile. A beginner with simple demands could use either one, but could soon find that Sandvox offers too much "hand holding" in order to prevent making mistakes. If you have a good eye for desktop design, you can create as beautiful a site as any possible with EverWeb. And all the HTML 5 coding is automatic and in the background. I'm really excited about this product, and as development proceeds it can only add features. But even if it stops now, it has taken iWeb-style web design to a new level. Well worth the cost. It can save you thousands by allowing you to create and maintain your own site, with as good or better results than many of the pros. This product in the hands of a real right-brained pro could produce unbelievably beautiful sites in a fraction of the time he/she would need with perhaps any other app. I can't say enough good things about this app, and hope it really becomes the new standard for Mac-based web design tools "for the rest of us."

"EverWeb is a fantastic replacement for iWeb"

February 26, 2014  |  By sunsiver

 |  Version: EverWeb 1.2

Pros

I created my website in iWeb '08 and iWeb 09 over the last 4 or 5 years. It was great; easy to use and very flexible. Unfortunately Apple stopped development on it over two years ago. I stuck with it for a while but then discovered EverWeb.

I must say, EverWeb has a lot of cool features that iWeb didn't. It looks and functions a lot like iWeb so it was very easy to learn. One important improvement are drop down navigation bars. Doing this with iWeb was very difficult but EverWeb does it for your automatically.

Another great feature I always wanted in iWeb was a Master Template Page so that I didn't have to go through each page on my site whenever I wanted to make a change. EverWeb implemented that feature in version 1.2.

I highly recommend EverWeb for anyone wanting to build a website.

I tried some of the online tools such as Wix and SquareSpace but they just don't have the design flexibility of iWeb or EverWeb.

Cons

Some features in EverWeb are missing such as image manipulation to adjust brightness, contrast etc... Built in blogging is also not yet supported but there is an easy way to create a mock blog as described in their video tutorials.
