This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />While Eudora seems to work fine, I now get troubles that people I send messages to can't read attachments or even the complete mail. But you only become aware of this, when they expect mail from you, you don't get any warning. Next to this, Eudora also have some irritating issues, like switching to other fonts than the one you heave chosen, while typing an message. Also irritating is the way to read attachments. So you better cannot use this app.

Thereafter, the program simply opened, and the various import options from within the program (to import from 6.2.4) do not work, they always crash, in fact Import all was greyed out (apparently not yet enabled). I was unable to find the pref folder so I could delete it to reset Eudora to re-try the initial startup importation button. Don't know why anyone would download this if they weren't a former Eudora user, and if it won't import, what's the point?

I like a number of features that are unique to Eudora, in particular the highly customizable menu bar to which you can add just about any menu command you use regularly. On the down side, it still does a mediocre job of displaying HTML compared to Apple Mail and Microsoft Entourage. I admit I'm at a loss as to why they haven't fixed this, considering how much HTML content e-mail contains these days. It seems like a glaring weakness.

Instead of focusing on interoperability with other applications and new Internet standards, and instead of addressing its critical shortcomings in security, what meager development effort has been spent on Eurora in recent years was wasted on superficial frills, such as emoticons. The continued failure to support seamless integration of authentication and encryption capabilities makes it increasingly difficult to defend Eudora in many corporate envirionments. To keep its edge, Eudora needs to regain at least API compatibility and feature parity with Apple's Mail application. It also should be more proactive in supporting new Mac technologies, such as universal binaries! Why does it still lack support for Spotlight??? If it had been kept up-to-date, Eudora could still earn five stars. But with the lack of support for secure messaging and better Macintosh integration for productivity I can't give it any more than two stars. I've been hanging on to old habits for over three years, but if Qualcomm can't deliver, Eudora won't see the next year on our machines. :-(

I compared to Thunderbird and Apple Mail which are good products but in the end I decided to stay with Eudora: - its the only mail client which renders *all* quicktime and PDF files within the message! As I get a lot of PDF attachements I can quickly browse the PDF without the need to detach it first - very handy. - its the only client with a *really* flexible toolbar. TB and Apple Mail have Toolbars too but only a few commands or macros can be placed there. I have about 40 mailfolders but I only need quick access to about 10 of them at a time. So define 10 toolbar buttons for only these boxes and off you go. - it integrates with Apples Addressbook, Thunderbird comes with (yet another) Addresslist. - its scriptable - I can use it on PC *and* Mac with a simple sync of mbox files. However, that's where the praise ends. Eudora has not updated to include correct forwarding of embedded images in HTML format email. They USED to in a different format, but that is now history since other email programs are using more modern means of including images. I filed a bug report and received an email back saying that they weren't going to do anything. I called Tech Support and the man rudely informed me that it was not Eudora's problem (the old blame game routine). I researched it on the web and found that other people were experiencing the same problem that I was having with Eudora. Hmmmm, sounds like a BUG to me. Watch out for Eudora - they aren't going to keep up with the times. Other email programs are more modern, but not Eudora. Tech support needs some lessons in courtesy. They have lost me as a customer.
