"Worthless, unclear what it does, hogs system resources"

Pros

I didn't find any. The web site doesn't even specifically state what the product does; just lists a bunch of hype.

Cons

I had no indication that this product stopped viruses from downloading onto my computer. The web site does not explicitly say that this product prevents known malware from downloading.

Avast on the other hand blocks known malware from downloading. It's stopped alot of malware from downloading onto my machine and missed one that nothing could identify.

I caught the program using a full 500,000 M of RAM. That is way too much, and would hang any computer more than a couple of years old.

The company uses scare tactics. For instance, ransomware will infect even your backup drives. Other IT experts are saying that while Ransomware exists adn can do that it is rare and not much of a threat. The theme of Emisoft's current newsletter is their claim that NBC's web sites are infected with malware.

Emisoft Antimalware costs twice as much as most other antivirus software, and you have to buy a second product for sandboxing, which Avast's standard price product includes.

Summary

Expensive scareware that doesn't do a whole lot. Don't buy it.

"Best antivirus ever!"

Pros

This is the best antivirus I have ever used. It found viruses other paid services left behind, or worse, were downloading themselves; as was the case with TrendMicro.

Cons

Deep scan uses LOT of system res. and takes a long time; but worth it

"Best Anti-Malware Product in the Market"

Summary

Lots of people hate this product. But surprise, surprise, comodo and AVG dont have the best signatures on the market. But emsisoft does. Emsisoft currently has the highest detection rate 99.6% ouut of ANY Anti virus product reviewed by a popular reviewer (VB100, Av Comparatives) The most current version not only uses the emsisoft engine, but it also uses the BitDefender engine too. So there is no reason not to click the download button and remove the viruses from your pc now.

Pros

Any problems other reviewers have pointed out have been fixed!
The whole program is awesome! Memory usage is very low, btw.
Worth every cent because it does what it says and it does a lot!

Cons

No Cons I have noticed!

Summary

Questionable software behaviour is not possible with "Emsisoft Anti-Malware". With "Online Armor" also installed, my pc is so secure I actually purchased both programs and I regret not buying them earlier!

"Convinced..."

Pros

..lighter on my system than some may claim. Yes, its not as user friendly as a bunch of others, but thats why we have brains, yes?. Once I dicephered, what I needed and didnt need, I was good to go, and the scans I ran to clean out whatever may have been hanging around, didnt slow down anything else that I was doing online.

I use a combo of anti-malware/virus that includes Emsisoft, Malwarebytes, SuperAntispyware and HijackThis. And I havent had a problem since the dark ages. I use Advanced System Pro Care, just to do maintenance on my comp, here and there.

I keep SuperAntispyware on standby, and I'll use it to scan my system once a month. Malwarebytes gives me a schedueled scan everytime I log on, or re-boot, and then it shuts down...its not good to have more than one antivirus running. Emsisoft stabilizes EVERYTHING and will keep a lot of crap at bay, with every kind of guard from here to eternity.

This is the best combination of stuff Ive had, with Emsisoft leading the pack.

Cons

actually, I dont have any complaints or concerns. The price is doable and is cheaper than a lot of antivirus. I think Emsisoft is way underrated because its not as user friendly as some others, but its not difficult at all to figure out, if you have 5 minutes to look at all that it offers. Its not trying to trick you into doing anything, and there's no malware or viruses attached to to

great program but, cmon cnet you need to start keeping up with more software you have a habit of falling behind with certain software emsisoft is in version 6 now not v5 and version 6 is a lot better than v5 and version 6.5 is being released soon so cmon cnet pull your finger out and review version 6 and 6.5 when its released and stop bein lazy :P

High Ram Usage---Almost Use 174MB for 5-10 after Startup
High Page File Usage
No System Requirement info on Emsisoft Site (I found it on IKARUS Website that it Requires 1 GB RAM, 2GHZ Processor)
Sometimes False Positives!!!!

I am Using it for about 5 Days for now & let me tell you that it works Perfectly...Though I m on P-IV 2.8 Ghz, 1 GB...It is a bit slower Experience. But Got rid of ecleaner.exe, uninstall_.exe, ASR_XXXXX.exe Viruses from my PC...If they can some how work it out about high resource Usage...Iw would be my 1st choice...The best think i can get it for just 2.5$ (INR 132.03). In India..Special Discount!!!!!

As it is usual with the top security product from a company, Emsisoft's security pack includes anti-virus (2 separate scanning engines to be precise) a firewall, web filter and so forth.

After installing it, I put it to my classic acid test of visiting known malicious websites to observe how it behaves in a dangerous environment. I must say I tried multiple times to infect the computer, and all the attempts were thwarted by either the real-time protection module, or the web filter. Read on for what I found to be the problem with this product.

Although this product passed the test described above with flying colors, the problem I found with Emsisoft is its over-restricted and awkward approach to security. Every time ANY program tried to access the Internet, modify the registry, or otherwise perform any questionable action, a pop-up window came up alerting me to it and asking me to make a decision. And the worst part is, even though there was a checkbox to have Emsisoft remember my answer so I would not be prompted again when the same operation repeated, I kept being prompted again for a decision on things I had already decided what course of action to take, AND had told Emsisoft to remember my answer. Glitchy and awkward.

Along that line, I have tried the firewall before, as a stand-alone installation, and besides the above nuisance, I found the firewall to be very resource-hugging and a specific application installed in my computer, for no reason at all, decreased in performance about 2,000%. It was hard to track down too, as there was no evidence connecting the presence of the firewall to the degraded performance of the application, and only through a trial test was I able to ascertain that indeed the firewall was the culprit.

So although a pass on the test drive, I'd stay away from it in terms of the user experience.

"More trouble than help"

I sent the following email to Emsisoft when they asked why I had uninstalled it: For a long time, Emsisoft scans identified cookies that it could not remove or quarantine. I just lived with it.

Then it started finding a virus no one else could find, and it could not delete it. It kept saying that the files would be fixed when I rebooted, but they just showed up again. So I went to the Emsisoft Forum and some called [name deleted] (or something like that) who apparently is approved by your company had me go through step after step to "fix" the problem. None of them involved Emsisoft tools - all involved 3rd party software like AVG or CCleaner. I would send him the results. After about a week of sending him stuff, he told me that my computer was "riddled" with virus and that my only choice was to erase and re-install everything. I did another scan using one of the tools he told me to use, and it showed nothing. I sent it to him. His response was that all I needed to due was to clean up the tools I had downloaded at his instruction. The computer had somehow gone from "hopelessly compromised" to apparently fine without anyone doing anything.

At the beginning of this process, before I went to your forum, I got the Norton people to check my computer over the web because Emsisoft had said that some Norton files were involved and to contact them. They did not find the virus and said most likely it was not real. I thought Emsisoft knew better. After all, I had received so many recommendations for the earlier version - A squared. So I lost a week, only to find out that Norton was right. Then I went to CNET and checked customer reviews. A general theme was that the earlier version had been very good, but the change to Emsisoft had made the software a real dud. Indeed. Not only isn't it helpful - it is the opposite. I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed I am.

That's why I uninstalled Emsisoft and let my licenses lapse.
