Publisher's Description
From Lars Hederer:
Emergency Recovery Utility NT allows a complete backup and restore of the Registry for Windows NT 4.0 and all following versions based on the NT kernel This is a program which offers to backup the registry, as well as providing an auto-backup capability, for example at Windows startup. Or, before installing a new program for testing purposes one could save the registry with ERUNT, install and test the program, uninstall it and restore the registry to be 100% sure that no debris is left. Features: backup the Windows NT/2000/2003/XP registry to a folder of your choice, system and current user registries selectable, command line switches for automated registry backup and restoration, restore the registry in Windows 9x/Me/NT/2000/2003/XP and MS-DOS (all-in-one restore program) or the Windows Recovery Console.

"Absolutely great"
Version: Emergency Recovery Utility NT 1.1
Pros
Better and more reliable than Windows own system restore. Restores the whole Windows system and instead of overwriting bad registry values it deletes the damaged registry and practically builds a new one by restoring it to its previous state.
Cons
I used many times and never had any issues.
-

"Install before you need it - then forget it till you do"
Version: Emergency Recovery Utility NT 1.1
Pros
Simple yet vital registry recovery software. Anyone can use it
Cons
Well...scratching around here....the help file is a bit long. Don't be put off, it is a very simple utility.
Summary
Anyone can use ERUNT: everyone probably should. If you know enough to Respect the Registry, you know enough to use ERUNT. You, or your tech support person, may one day be grateful for this app.
ERUNT can be set to make a daily registry backup for you. Just select the ?autobackup? option as you install the program. You can then make further on-demand backups, or just forget it ?unless, and until, something dire happens to your computer.
If it does, and you need to restore your registry, navigate to the WINDOWS\ERDNT folder, find the date you want to restore to, and click on the .exe file within that date?s folder. Done. The registry will be restored. If your computer is harmed to the extent you cannot navigate to the folder, ERUNT?s help file guides you step by step to other emergency recovery methods (so if you?ve only got access to one computer, best print off the readme file straight after installation).
I don?t use NTREGOPT, the registry optimiser bundled with it, and I don?t use the ERUNT utility in any other way. I still prefer to use System Restore before I make changes to the computer. But I love the security of having ERUNT?s daily backup in case the unexpected happens. You, or your tech support person, might appreciate this too. -
