  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Given that EchoLink doesn't provide an interface for the Mac users of the world, EchoMac has filled that gap. I only recently downloaded it and find it an absolutely excellent, if simplistic, tool by which to communicate worldwide with my fellow Amateur Radio Operators. Yes, to be legal the user must be a licensed HAM operator and validation is required. I suspect as time goes on, the developer will upgrade and tweak the interface, though as it stands it is very user friendly. Since I am unable to run an HF station at this time, I am able to at least "pretend" I am on the air. EchoLink uses the internet in a fashion such that I am able to communicate with any HAM worldwide, connected through EchoLink. Thanks to the developers for providing a MAC friendly application. Oh, I almost forgot, it's free.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Just found out an old ham friend out of state is using Echolink. Happy to see this app ported to OS X. Works quite well. A couple of nitpicks- For some reason I can't use my Apple PlainTalk mike. As soon as I transmit in EchoMac, the mic gain setting in the Panther "Sound" pane pegs full level regardless of its previous setting, resulitng in unusably distorted audio. The iMac DV's built-in mic works fine, though. The User Guide is helpful but it is for the Windows version which has considerably more handles and tweaks availabie. Not sure how to do "conference" mode in EchoMac, for instance. Availability of more Prefs/Settings would be useful. Still, happy to have it available and thanks. -- Chuck Reti WV8A Detroit MI
