Echelon demo

Publisher's Description

From Bethesda Softworks:

Echelon is the next step in the evolution in futuristic flight combat. Players can fly a variety of futuristic aircraft through several branching campaigns, set on a continent that takes eight real-time hours to cross. Set in the year 2351, players begin the game as a member of a squad, working to achieve mission objectives while immersed in tension-filled, white-knuckle combat over lush alien landscapes and towering cities.

Echelon features more than 25 types of friendly and enemy craft, 100 vehicles, and over 100 additional objects. In addition to several single-player campaigns, Echelon will support several multiplayer options, including deathmatch and co-op modes in a variety of game types.

"Lazy Americans? I don't think so."

    June 1, 2001  |

    Version: Echelon demo

    Summary

For those Russians talking about Americans too lazy to learn a foreign language, you're absolutely right! English is now the universal language and if you don't speak it, you can't succeed in this world. Anyways, why would anyone want to learn Russian? Russia has become an extremely poor country, and now that communism is gone, the people do not know how to live by themselves. But, on the other hand, it is an excellent game!

    "A Major New Game"

    April 20, 2001  |

    Version: Echelon demo

    Summary

As an American who can't speak a word of Russian, please allow me to apologize for all my countrymen who posted negative reviews here because they couldn't read the game. Yes, it makes its a bit tricky to figure out, but I was flying within a minute or two. I think it amounts to agregious ethnocentrism to demand all games on CNET be in English -- take half a second and just figure it out! It isn't rocket science. The graphics are probably the best of any game in its class, with specular lighting effects, bump-mapping, dust and particle effects, and more. It will be a major game when it comes out (in English, I expect, for you slow folks) later this month. One question for the Russians -- Please (!) tell me how to switch the game to Joystick control. I can't figure that one out, though I've gotten into the screen for changing the controls. The joystick buttons work, but only the mouse directs the ship, and the throttle doesn't work either. Any suggestions? I'd like to play this game for real, instead of just admiring the graphics. Thanks, GSB
