A nifty utility to find duplicate lines in select files, but minor errors and demo limitations reduce this program's appeal. Installing Dupli Find is easy, but the application requires Windows Script to be installed before it will run. The basic interface contains only function buttons and a small source display window. Though the interface resizes, there is no option to change display text size. The separate Help file is not accessible from within the program.
To operate you merely browse to the plain text, Word, or Excel file or files to check. While finding duplicate lines is very quick, choosing what to keep is not as fast. The program lists duplicate lines along with their source line numbers. Unfortunately, the source file or files won't have the line numbers to match up to. Using a pull-down menu you can quickly select from different methods to delete the duplicate lines. However, if you're checking multiple files, there is no method to delete duplicates only from one of the files checked. The demo limitation doesn't allow users to save checked files. However, the registered version forces users to save the edited files as one file. You must have Microsoft Word and Excel installed to check those files.
Our testers reported the program occasionally crashed when loading files to check. That irritation coupled with the demo limitation may cause some users to give up on Dupli Find. It is a help though for select programmers, copy editors, and others who work with multiple copies of the same file.
From RL Vision:
Dupli Find searches duplicate lines in text files, Excel spreadsheets, and Word documents. Found duplicates are reported and can be easily removed from the file. Custom scripts can be used to narrow down the search for better results. Dupli Find can also be used as a general text utility that provides many functions for manipulating text files. Everything can be automated using command lines to save time and effort.
What's new in this version:
Version 6.16 fixes two problems that prevented saving files when using some options.
