Editors' Note: The Download Now link will prompt a local download of the Firefox extension. To install the extension directly, open the file using your Firefox browser.
This Firefox extension effectively locates embedded files within Web pages, but users should be prepared to go to great lengths just to figure out how to get it started.
Simply put, after we installed Download Embedded, nothing happened. We had to do our own research to figure out how the program works. The interface itself consists of a red arrow that appears at the bottom of your Firefox window whenever embedded objects are detected. Hovering your mouse over the arrow displays how many objects are available. From there, you have the option of viewing the items or downloading them. We chose to view them and a pop-up window immediately appeared with the links of the embedded objects. From there, we were able to quickly download and save them to the location of our choice. It was pretty simple, but not immediately intuitive.
The program worked very fast and didn't slow down or impact our browsing. In the end, we appreciated the unobtrusiveness of this simple add-on. Once you get past the unimpressive beginning, this is an effective tool for finding and downloading embedded files.
This extension downloads all or parts of selected embedded objects on a webpage. Can be used for downloading movies, mp3s, flash, quicktime, or other embedded files.
