CNET Editors' review
Double Entry Accounting offers a very simple set of software tools for monitoring accounting entries. This journal-style program allows users to monitor the numbers, but it leaves something to be desired in the design department.
The program's interface was basic and lacking direction, so we needed to visit the Help file's instructions and view a sample accounting collection before we understood how to navigate everything well enough. Once we felt comfortable, we discovered that the program allowed us to make deposits and deductions into several categories we created in order to gain a solid picture of our accounts. Once each separate entry was entered, we were able to cycle through a very readable selection of ledgers, balances, and statement sheets. While all the numbers added up and the statements were easy enough to understand, they didn't flow effortlessly, and we found ourselves pausing before each move because the layout didn't intuitively link from entries to statements. Another complaint we had was how plain and unprofessional these statements looked. The ability to customize each with a header and maybe a logo would have gone a long way toward making Double Entry Accounting a really versatile tool. While there were some headaches, the program ultimately provided a simple method for monitoring finances.
Double Entry Accounting has a 50-entry trial limit. It comes as a compressed file. Althought it has a few design flaws, we were able to keep an eye on our accounts, and we still recommend this program.

"No Lazyboy accounting features here"
Version: Double Entry Accounting 4.0
Pros
No clutter or junk, works on Windows'7. Straight forward Double Entry Accounting Entry system, does tasks that other software has to be reprogrammed or upgraded to do. It can find and follow the money more quickly. CSV and Excel Friendly.
Cons
NOT for beginners NEED basic accounting or Double Entry book keeping.
Summary
It works, you get what you need no monthly rental or constant updates like other free scam software in which a user cannot get their data out off. It also includes a 5 user license.
The price looks expensive but is very cheap in the long run. Because you don't need to upgrade the hardware. We running on Window'95 and on a Windows'7 with no problems where other software just failed. -

"No hard to learn Accounting Software"
Version: Double Entry Accounting 2.21
Pros
This software uses the double entry system so NO re-learning an alien account system with numerous number of picture button for accounts you may not even want or uses.
Cons
If you haven't done an accounting course before its not really for you. But then again most of these other account packages need special training even if you are an accountant or accounting student.
Summary
My old system was big chucky and freezes after 20,000 or so entries because of their massive size and the endless sets of unless features and hard to understand reports and bad entries were hard to find. This package is very basic and uses next to no memory and you can create very large set of accounts and track down bad entry faster and it doesn't force an account or a balance sheet to balance. The good thing about this package it is one small file which will never go out of date and doesn't uses all thses special libraries making it work in all Windows and Linux under WinE with no problem.

Summary
Don't waste your time on something that is free to try, but you can't use. YOU can see how it could work, but it won't let you. So basically why bother with this one! Thanks for the huge waste of time, and thanks for giving the competition MY MONEY!
