Publisher's description

From CDV Software :

DarkStar One delivers fast-paced action within a vast and authentic universe, spectacular graphics, freedom of choice, a gripping story and the power to save the federal galaxy from its nemesis.

In this demo you will have access to two clusters (groups of solar systems). You may explore the solar systems within these clusters with relative freedom. It is your choice how you act, whether as a pirate, a bounty hunter, a trader, or your own combination of the careers on offer. However, bear in mind that your actions will have consequences...

Exploring the entire demo content provides approximately one and a half hours of gameplay. There is no time limit, allowing you more scope for discovering additional features and hunting down ships.

    Version: DarkStar One demo

"If you liked Freelancer, you will like Darkstar One"

    by g.conley on July 3, 2006

Pros: You could easily call this "Freelancer 2006". It appears that the developers took Freelancer and decided to update it, keeping the good and discarding the bad. It is VERY similar to Freelancer right down to the little things like being stopped and inspected for contraband cargo with almost the exact same voice over dialog that Freelancer had. There are new twists and an interesting plot from what I can tell by the demo. All in all a good solid game. Very easy learning curve. Fun without all the tedious patrol missions that made Freelancer a grind to play at times. If you liked Freelancer, you WILL like Darkstar One.

    "Great game"

by falklian on July 4, 2006

Pros: Downloaded this game about an hour ago, seems to be pretty cool so far. Can you say Freelancer?

Cons: A bit buggy, but it's a pre-release demo and so far nothing horribly wrong has happened.

"Great game, but it has many requierments to be great"

by Delnar Ersike on March 23, 2007

Pros: Darkstar One Demo is a fantastic, first-person game that puts you in the cockpit of a spaceship with unmatched power. It allows you to explore a myriad of systems and do all kinds of things in them. You can choose to trade peacefully, smuggle in illegal goods, hunt pirates, or even to become the local menace by killing every police and trader ship in the system! You have a full, 3D environment to navigate your ship in. The storyline is also very, very interesting, even if you choose not to complete it.

Cons: To create all the pros, this game requires a lot of hardware. The demo takes up roughly 1GB and the real game takes up more than 6GB of hard disk space. When running from an older computer, you have to run the game with the lowest graphics options possible in order for the game to play at a descent speed. People with laptops (like me), you should either attach a joystick, external mouse, and/or external keyboard to be able to control your ship. Otherwise, you can remap the keys (hard to do since there are so many controls that use keys already) or just forget about playing this game on a laptop.

Plus, this game is a demo. Demos are demos: they are trials that limit you to the basic, boring stuff and have you drool at what you'll be able to do by purchasing the real game.
