I've tried to make it work on an Airport network (with 802.11b WAPs) and the latency is too much... playback will freeze within a few seconds of starting with default settings. Making use of the transcoding will get you MUCH further, but one has to play with the settings to find what works. Network latency due to use of hubs rather than switches, distance of wireless transceiver from airport client, other traffic on network or server activity ... they all play into improving success. But just for the sheer technical joy of 'doing it', this product really rocks. After two hours of playing and watching, I rediscovered that there's absolutely nothing on worth my time. 57 channels and there's nothing on - springsteen.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I cannot believe how well CyTV works. I've used it to stream both within my own home network and over the Internet. A few words of advice to those who want to try Internet streaming from their home computers: (1) Go to www.portforward.com for help on configuring your router or firewall. I configured my SMC router to assign a static IP address to my home Powermac based on its MAC address, then opened a TCP connection for the 443 port to that IP address. (2) If you're using a cable ISP with dynamic IP allocation, the dyndns.org website provides you with the free Dynamic DNS service that will keep your CyTV client pointed to your server even if your ISP changes your IP address. You'll also need to use either the DNSUpdate or MacDynDNS client on your server to periodically update your home IP address on the dyndns.org web site. (3) Most home ISPs in the U.S. severely limit your upstream bandwidth, so you'll probably need to use the DSL transcoding settings in the CyTV documentation in order to watch TV without any pauses or stuttering. Inside your home network this limitation does not apply, and you can turn transcoding off. I urge everyone to go to the author's web site and make a donation for future development of CyTV. This is an amazing application that deserves the support of the Mac / EyeTV community. Now if only someone would create a client for the Treo 600 ... :-)

My Girlfrind have an iBook and i have a Powerbook G3 and an iMac in other Rooms. With these Software i be able to Watch different Streams on every Computer over Wifi or cable simultanoisly....Great also the Live Encoding Feature for low end mac's...now you can watch TV on every Computer!!!.... Go on Andreas...

The client on a Lombard, connected through a weak 802.11b network (Snow Airport). Even if the developer claims for a more powerful configuration, I have a flawless, full screen image of my HQ recordings! Same for live TV. The PowerBook gives an S-Video signal to a TV set and a stereo sound to an amp. I thing everybody gets what I have in mind, for the next step! This could save me some 100s of $, of buing one these MP3 boxes! Thanks a lot Andreas! P.S. thanks to ElGato and VLC teams too.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Originally I bought the El Gato EyeTV 400 because it was firewire and I'd be able to move it from my Power Mac G5 to my iBook G4, then today while I was searching for something to merge 2 avis together on freshmeat.net I found CyTV by accident. Running the server on my G5 and the client on the G4 I tried streaming some TV over wireless, not expecting much at all. What can I say? WOW! It worked perfectly. This is one of the best things I've found for my Mac fullstop. Thank you very much for this app, and the fact you released it under the GPL and don't ask for cash is just amazing. If I could find your donate now button I'd do just that. This is a fantastic application, thank you once again! Works perfectly on OS X 10.3.5 running EyeTV 1.61.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Well it is a great idea in concept ... it is not working for me at all ... the VLC starts running, and running, and running .... it never stops and never shows a pic ... the remote computes see the transmitting one but the VLC is not working ....
