"It does exactly what I want each time."
Version: Copernic Desktop Search Professional 3.5.0.97
Pros
It's fast and works in the background.
Cons
Haven't found any so far. Haven't had an occasion to contact tech support.
Summary
It's fast, it finds what you want and indexes in the background.
-
"No support"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search Professional 3.5.0.97
Pros
Pretty, I think
Cons
Does not seem to be able to index email on exchange server even though it says it can.
Summary
Questions put to support go unanswered for 5 or 6 days. When they do answer it is no the question you asked, not even close. Its almost like they just pull something out of thin air.
-
"No sweat, no stress; find almost anything instantly."
Version: Copernic Desktop Search Professional 3.4.0.25
Pros
Virtually limitless search capabilities. Phenominal pay-back, time being money; it can save its modest cost even within the first hour... In most file types one can view searched-for contents (and if wished copy anything) without opening the file.
Cons
Now that indexing is fast (earlier versions could take days or even weeks) I cannot think of any! And now no limit to size of drives it can work on...
Summary
In my view faster and more useable than Microsoft's and Google's desktop search offerings. My number-one desktop tool; used multiple times every day.
-
"An essential application employed many times each day."
Version: Copernic Desktop Search Professional 3.4.0.25
Pros
In my experience, greater flexibility in specifying search terms than Google desktop. Much easier to use and far faster than various Microsoft desktop search tools. Does not tie up machine when indexing like Microsoft products that I've tried.
Cons
Far, far too often, Copernic so hogs CPU that machine stalls even though I have a 3.0 Ghz dual processor machine with 2 GByte of RAM. I often need to manually pause indexing, so I can proceed with my work.
Summary
My comments are based on several months of use of Copernic Desktop Search Professional 3.4.0.25 on my 3.0 Ghz dual processor machine with 2 GByte of RAM.
On the plus side: Copernic typically identifies files very quickly even though I have many GBytes of files on my machine. (2) Usually I can proceed with my work while Copernic functions in background. I can't say the same for various Microsoft based search engines, as all of them seem to slow down my machine.
On the Negative side, Copernic sometimes demands over 80% of CPU capacity as reported by the Windows Task Manager. When that happens, all other work stops. Copernic is supposed to stop indixing when machine is in use, but it often does not stop, and I have to manually halt indexing.
Copernic's presentation of a vignette of selected search document is handy, as it speeds up search. One does not have to open file to learned if search result is the intended application. -
"Copernic Pro blows away Google Desktop Search"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search Professional 3.4.0.25
Pros
Automatic "sorting" of file types. Almost instant search results. Love being able to include/exclude file types in index.
Cons
Initial indexing takes a very long time, especially when Copernic is set to pause indexing when computer is "in use."
-
"Once configured adequately, Copernic Pro as excellent."
Version: Copernic Desktop Search Professional 3.2.1.8
Pros
I was expecting some degradation of computer performance, but there was none. Very important to me. I have 5 separate areas, with at least 150GB of data to index - speed is of the essence, if I am going to be happy with a product.
Cons
I was terribly disappointed with my experience this time with Copernic, until I realized that the default for indexing was set for every 4 days! I feel that a default value should be no more than every hour.
Summary
Once configured for my needs, the performance was excellent. I think that Copernic should automatically bring up the defaults that are pre-set, so that an initial user will realize what is happening - it took me a while to recognize what was happening. Also, Copernic shoujld bring up a window that shows what the default index drives are. I would have saved me time and made me a happier customer.

"The worst support service I have seen."
Version: Copernic Desktop Search Professional 3.2.1.8
Pros
mmmm... nothing
Cons
The worst support service I have seen.
Summary
Copernic Software sell DEAD SOFTWARE. You pay for the programs, but when you have a question because the help provided is incomplete, nobody answer to your questions, or their answers is about wrong product (automated answers?). You can request the 30 day money back guarantee, but they will ignore your requests. Shocking.

"A fine product that does its job"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search Professional 3.2.1.8
Pros
Fast, correct and easy to use
Cons
Prior problems cleared up with newest addition
Summary
I have used this product for several years. While there have been some minor problems with speed, I enjoyed it more than the competitive products. The latest version seems to have cleared the remaining bugs. It is a super fast and convenient way to find what is stored on my computer.

"Good display and easy configuration, misses some files"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search Professional 3.2.1.8
Pros
Preview Pane. Can sort results by several indicators. Easy configurations of indexing options and control use of system resources.
Cons
Files that are not supported for full text indexing are ignored - does not even index these by filename.
Outlook *.pst mailboxes are ignored if not open in the Outlook interface.Summary
I like the display of the results and prevew pane. Can sort results by several indicators. Preview pane is fast way to check the contents of the document. Configuring the options is very easy so you point to folders you want indexed (and those you don't) and to control its use of system resources - when to index, how often, etc.
I was really disapointed that this version (especially afer I paid for it) does not index even the filename of file types that Copernic cannot drill into. If the file is not recognized I would like it to simply index the name. I was also disapointed that it does not index Archived Outlook *.pst files even when they are in indexed folders. Copernic only indexes mailboxes that are open in the Outlook interface, which sort of defeats the purpose of an archive - data that you want to store offline, and only retrieve if you need it. -
"great product- worth the upgrade"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search Professional 3.2 Build 44
Pros
fast, easy to use, finds everything. great preview function.
Cons
nothing yet
Summary
an upgrade to the home edition which had some nice upgraded features and no advertising. faster and easier to use than google or windows desktop.
