"BUYER BEWARE - They Refuse to honor their guarantee"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.22
Pros
I didn't find this product to have any advantage over their competitor "Living Cookbook"
Cons
Refuse to honor their guarantee !!!
1) When I view a recipe in Living Cookbook, I am able to see both the recipe ingredients and the nutrition information all at the same time. With Cook'n I have to click to a different page and scroll over to see the entire report of the nutrition data.
2) When I print a recipe with Living Cookbook, the format is clean and simple and the nutrition information is automatically included without any extra configuration or option selection.
3) The Living Cookbook import did not maintain the hierarchy of cookbook chapters. Recipes were placed only in the lowest level cookbook chapter.Summary
I purchased this software on December 13, 2012. based on the guarantee published on their web site:
"Risk-Free 200% Guarantee Means You Can't Lose If you are not completely satisfied with the quality of your Cook'n Software, I will refund your purchase! In fact, I will go one step further and buy you the recipe software product of your choice."
I evaluated the software for two weeks and on December 26, I send an email to the address provided in my order confirmation stating that I would like a refund. I know they received the email because I received an out-of-the-office message stating they would reply after the holidays and wishing me a blessed Christmas season. In that email, I provided three reasons for my decision which I've listed below and indicated that I would like them to purchase the software of my choice "Living Cookbook".
As of today March 4, 2013, I still have not received either a refund or the software product of my choice despite two additional emails. One sent on January 22, 2013 and one sent on February 10, 2013.
I am using Living Cookbook and find it a far superior product at about a third of the cost of Cook'n.
Here are the reasons I chose to return the product for a refund:
1) When I view a recipe, I am able to see both the recipe ingredients and the nutrition information all at the same time.
Recipes were placed only in the lowest level cookbook chapter.
I've rated them 1 star only because I am unable to rate 0 starts. While they seem to espouse Christian values in their emails and and family values on their web site, it appears those values don't apply to their business dealings. -

"Good but needs work"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
- captures recipes from recipe sites quite well
- comprehensive nutritional database for mapping ingredients to get nutrition for each recipe
- nice layout
- themes for making recipes look fancyCons
- can no longer import recipes from another software package such as Mastercook
- no easy way to copy and paste a recipe that it can't capture, must hand enter it line by line.
- adding images is a pain (no drag and drop feature like with other programs - must save to computer and then import to program)Summary
Overall this is a good program. I prefer one that requires less work. I do like the capture feature - but it would be nice if it could recognize recipes in non-recipe sites. It is a lot of work to enter a recipe manually - there is no easy copy / paste feature. It will match some of the nutritional values but no better than any other program. You still have to go in and check the matching manually to make sure it is accurate. Each program I have tried has its pros and cons. Although the nutritional database in Cook'n is comprehensive, I prefer the ease of adding recipes that I find in other programs. I will give this more of a chance, but I may be using their 200% satisfaction guarantee and getting a refund. I have over 200 recipes in another program, and adding them by hand to Cook'n is not my idea of fun.
Image Update: It does a good job at capturing images for recipes it can auto import into the program.
Updated on Jul 13, 2012
I would give it a higher rating if I could import recipes from my other software and if the copy/paste was not so time consuming.
Updated on Jul 13, 2012Reply from Customer Service about copy/paste and importing from another software:
We expect to have a third-party import feature in the future, but it would most likely be part of a paid upgrade; the highest priority for our development team right now is the mobile applications.
And you can copy and paste an entire recipe into the "Directions" field of the Cook'n recipe file. That way you don't have to go line by line. You won't be able to generate nutritional analysis because the ingredients won't be in the right fields, but it's a fast way to capture the recipe.

A paid upgrade to import recipes from another software? The software is already $80 and it is $20 for an app for my Android. I guess they don't want customers looking to transition. Back to LC I go until I can find a product for the Mac that I really like and doesn't break the bank. -
"Modern Day Commodity!"

At this moment, a little too soon to say anything "Cons"
Summary
To summarize this review I would like to say that I always find myself looking for a different recipe when I open the fridge door and with Cook'n Recipe Organizer - I just type in the 2 or 3 main ingredients and recipes show up. When I do find a recipe on the web, with one click I got it all organized!

"Awesome replacement!"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
This software has so many pros they are hard to list them all here. 1. I love that I can copy & paste the recipes from the internet. We find lots of recipes, but typing them all in can be a pain. Not here!
2. I can create my shopping list for the week right from the software! That helps with matching up coupons to use for the week too.
3. I can tell the software that I have salmon and search for recipes that I already have in the software. So, you can tell it what you have in the pantry and do some frugal cooking!
4. I can see the nutritional values of the foods that I am preparing for my family. It is hard sometimes to plan a healthy meal if you don't know the nutritional values of the foods, not here.
5. Oh, yes, and menu planning is a breeze! You can plan menus for a day, week, month, year, whatever your heart desires!
6. This software is very customizable, you can change the categories that recipes are in, create categories, and much more!Cons
The only con that I can see is that I would love to be able to scan in my Mother's recipes as some are written in my Grandmother and Great Grandmother's handwriting. I can scan them and use them as an image in the file as well, so this isn't really that big a deal.
Summary
This software is so worth having. I have saved space in my house with mine. I had little scraps of paper that I had cut from the newspaper, magaznies, printed from the internet and just made a mess with. Now all my recipes are in one place and I can search and find what I need when I need it.

"Cook'n has several amazing features"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
Capture feature, organizes grocery list by aisle, fun to use, customizable recipe backgrounds, print your own cook book
Cons
I honestly, love this program and can't think of a con.
Summary
There are so many cool features in Cook'n. Using the "Menu" tool I can plan my families daily meals. I can create a shopping list from my menu page too. Cook'n Organizes it aisle by aisle for me and can estimate the total grocery cost. Neat! In the "Search" function I can type in a couple of ingredients that I have on hand and it will select recipes that involve those items. You can even print the cookbook that you create and hand it out as gifts. What a great idea!
I love the capture feature of Cook'n It allows you to take any recipe you find online and organize it for you. There are several different printing options which makes it easy to add to any recipe book you already have.
Cook'n can analyze nutritional value at a click of the mouse. It can also double, triple or half any recipe for you. I love this feature too. You can email a recipe straight from Cook'n. So many neat features. I can't do them all justice! I'd definitely recommend it to anyone. Also makes a great gift! -
"Cook'n is great recipe software!"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
Understanding the calorie content of the food I am eating, even my family recipes is critical to my diet right now. Cook'n makes this really easy. I also really like planning a menu for the week and printing out a shopping list of all the food items I need for the week.
Cons
Needs an iPhone app so I don't have to print my shopping list.
Summary
I really like Cook'n and recommend it.

"Very helpful software!"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
They have a list of amazing cookbooks you can download right into the software. Those cookbooks matched with the Nutritional Analysis feature make dieting easy for me!
Cons
They don't have some of my favorite brands so I had to add those manually.
Summary
I would suggest everyone uses this software, whether it's for a diet, saving money while shopping (with the shopping list feature), or just as a great tool to help you decide which meal you want and how to cook it!
