"Cook'n is great recipe software!"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
Understanding the calorie content of the food I am eating, even my family recipes is critical to my diet right now. Cook'n makes this really easy. I also really like planning a menu for the week and printing out a shopping list of all the food items I need for the week.
Cons
Needs an iPhone app so I don't have to print my shopping list.
Summary
I really like Cook'n and recommend it.

"Very helpful software!"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
They have a list of amazing cookbooks you can download right into the software. Those cookbooks matched with the Nutritional Analysis feature make dieting easy for me!
Cons
They don't have some of my favorite brands so I had to add those manually.
Summary
I would suggest everyone uses this software, whether it's for a diet, saving money while shopping (with the shopping list feature), or just as a great tool to help you decide which meal you want and how to cook it!

"Simply the Best!"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
"Cook'n" as I affectionately call this recipe organizer is several products in one. First, it is a cookbook manager for all your own recipes and internet recipes that you can search for and capture right into Cook'n (it's amazing how they do this!), a menu planner using your own recipes, a grocery shopping assistant and your own personal home nutritionist. They offer a fantastic Support page on their website where you can read directions and/or watch videos on how to use your software. (there are so many things Cook'n does, the videos really help, and you can watch them over and over) Seriously, what else do you need?
Cons
The only thing "Cook'n" lacks, is someone to come in and clean your kitchen after you have created all your amazing and nutritious recipes.
Summary
I love that this company is on the cutting edge of technology. They are about to release mobile applications that will sync with my desktop application of Cook'n. What more could a 'Diva' ask for? Thank you DVO Enterprises for creating such a wonderful software program that helps make me look efficient as I struggle along in life.

"Best recipe software on the market"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
Cook'n is very easy to use. Organizing recipes is simple and there are large, easy-to-see buttons at the top of the program so you can quickly navigate between functions. Capturing recipes is fun, and you can divide recipes into categories for even more customization.
Cons
Mobile apps aren't out yet, which is a bummer. It looks like they're seeking beta testers though, so hopefully they are close.
Summary
Totally recommended. I've seen complaints here and there from others who are upset that DVO, the creators of Cook'n, no longer offers phone support for customers. I have checked and there is not a single similar program which offers phone support, so this ought not to be a detriment. In my experience, their email support has been both fast and useful.
Perhaps the best way to evaluate the comparison between programs is thus: go to DVO.com and check out their site. Then go to LivingCookbook.com and check out theirs. Which site looks like it was built as a middle school class project in 1998? Which company do you think is more ready to integrate new technologies and to continue to evolve in volatile markets? Though Cook'n is more expensive, the decision shouldn't be difficult. -

"LOVE THIS SOFTWARE!"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
Without trying to sound too cliche, this software has changed my life. I love to cook and i love to browse recipe sites for fun things to try. This software gives me the ability to click one button and i can capture the recipe right into my cook'n software. Meal planning, menu planning, analyses nutrition, what can't this software do. Seriously nice job whoever made this. Nice Job!
Cons
i do not have enough time to use it. seriously that's it. And i will also like to have nicer themes for my recipes but that is it.

"Absolutely Awesome Software!"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
The new capture feature is amazing, it's so helpful to be able to browse all of the different recipe websites, pick out the recipes I want, and still have them all in one location. I really like how you can customize the background of the recipes too, and even add photos! It's easy to use and a really great idea since it can also adjust serving sizes and even analyze nutritional values! I also really love the grocery list feature, it's so much easier to stay on budget (and therefore save money) by using a list that has exactly what I will need, and it even categorizes it for convenience. This is truly remarkable software, and I highly recommend it!
Cons
No cons, this product really met all of the needs it was designed for, it was easy to understand and their website has instructional videos and everything.
Summary
I absolutely loved this software, and I highly highly recommend it. Once you use it and see how awesome it is, there is just no going back!

"Exceeds Your Expectations!!"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
This software is now on version 10, so by now you can be sure all the rookie mistakes have been worked out, It is extremely easy to use, versatile, conforms to how you want to best use it, and versions are being launched in January 2012 where you can take advantage of "cloud computing" and share your recipes from your desktop or laptop to your mobile devices (while in the kitchen) such as your iPad and Android device. It is a robust program, and for areas you may have questions; the technical support from Dan and the staff at DVO is quick and on target. As an added bonus the user group on the Cook'n Forum has a vast wealth of combined knowledge that is sure to give you solutions to your questions or alternate ways of doing something. It is a win-win all around.
Cons
The only "con" I can think of is there is no "exercise" module to help work off all this great food now available. . . . .
Summary
Finally we have the opportunity to have all our treasured family recipes, the great pass-along recipes from friends, the recipes printed out from the internet and the recipe clippings from all the magazines now available in one place.
And if you can't remember which recipe you were trying to recall then you can do a search by ingredients.
There are so many brand name cookbooks available from all the best publishers like Taste of Home, Pillsbury (including a cookbook Best of the Bake-off winners), Kellog's, and Betty Crocker. There are specialty cookbooks for grilling, diabetes, low carb, light & healthy, Mexican, crepes, smoothies, crock pot, dutch oven, and even sun cooking using a solar oven!
Cook'n can now "scrape" a recipe from a web site and load the ingredients and directions into the proper place. You may add photos from the article as well. The more time you spend with it, the more things it will do for you.
As users think of additional capabilities, the staff at DVO have been adding these new features. They really do listen to the installed user base and treat them like partners in this whole process. It's not a "Us" verses "them". . .it's all about us in this together. It just keeps getting better and better.
You will enjoy using this creative tool to try new and different recipes, catalog your favorites, and to print gift cookbooks to give to your friend and family. You too will become a satisfied user of Cook'n .
Enjoy it!

"Capture feature needs work"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
The Capture feature is easy to use
A somewhat cleaner user interface
User manual includedCons
Less than intuitive interface.
The Capture feature was not all that reliable. It seemed to me, the recipes did not Capture correctly into the various input fields such as yield, prep and cook time or serves boxes.
I was unable to find the DVO Cook'n app needed to sync shopping lists at the Apple App store. I searched using my iOS device. Perhaps the app was there and I missed it. I can not comment on the app's reliability as it was not included in the demo.
Limited export features. You can export a single recipe in HTML format. You can export a DVO Cook'n cookbook in HTML or DVO proprietary format.
Limited import features. You can import Cook'n files and that's about it.
The Cook'n 10 recipe browser. I am not computer savvy enough to determine if the browser uses the DVO server, but if it does, the user is dependent on DVO maintaining the server to access the Capture feature.Summary
This newest version offers a built-in recipe browser which allows the user to "Capture" recipes from DVO compatible websites and the ability to sync shopping lists with iOS devices such as the iPad or iPod. I was unable to test this feature as it was not included in the demo. You can view the DVO video at YouTube or at the developer's website where the sync feature is shown in operation.
You export multiple recipes to a cookbook to save in case you have to back up your recipes. Text files are preferable so you can hopefully import the files into the program, or at least be able to back them up. There is nothing more disheartening, or frustrating, to see all your recipes gone because the software no longer works. And if the company is out of business, and you can not get replacement software, all your work is gone. (Micro Cookbook comes to mind here) At least with a text file you have something to work from.
This version is compatible with both PCs and Macs. I tested the software using a Windows XP machine.
The pros:
The Capture feature is easy to use.
A somewhat cleaner user interface
User manual included
The cons:
Less than intuitive interface.
The Capture feature was not all that reliable. It seemed to me, the recipes did not Capture correctly into the various input fields such as yield, prep and cook time or serves boxes. I tried this feature on several different websites found using the Cook'n 10 recipe browser.
I was unable to find the DVO Cook'n app needed to sync shopping lists at the Apple App store. I searched using my iOS device. Perhaps the app was there and I missed it. I can not comment on the app's reliabilty as it was not included in the demo.

The Cook'n 10 recipe browser. I am not computer savvy enough to determine if the browser uses the DVO server, but if it does, the user is dependent on DVO maintaining the server to access the Capture feature.
Cook'n I'm sure has a devoted following and this newest edition will keep the followers happy.
For people who have not invested in Cook'n I'd suggest trying MacGourmet as this program offers a built-in recipe browser. When I tested this browser it worked very well and seemed to import recipes correctly. Also, MacGourmet offers both technical support and recipe forums at Advenio.com. The forums require registration but are free when last checked.
For PCs I'd suggest trying the Living Cookbook, Mastercook, or Meal-Master. I've tried the Living Cookbook demo and it seems to work fairly well. Mastercook is an established program and offers both import and export of text files. For freeware try Meal-Master which does work when using a DOS emulator or Virtual PC on 64-bit machines. Meal-Master was originally written for 32-bit machines.
Overall, my recommendation is to use Mastercook as the programs offers a better selection of import and export features. Also, Mastercook is not dependent on a specific web browser to import recipes. Cook'n 10 is a contender but Mastercook is still the one I'd recommend.

"I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY COOK'N 10!!"
Version: Cook'n Recipe Organizer 10.0.1
Pros
The video demonstrations are excellent! Dan Oaks, the President of DVO,stands behind his software. Being in the forum, Dan is always actively engaged with us and is supportive about any suggestions and concerns that we may have. What other President would be actively involved the way he is! We receive free updates to our Cook'n that are automatic, making our love for Cook'n even better.
The Capture feature is a God-send! I am amazed how quickly it puts a selected recipe right into my Cook'n, including the picture!
I am so happy that I joined the forum. Besides making new friends,
other members come to your aide and help you with any problems you might have.
I love my free monthly e-cookbooks that I can download. One of the first things I look at in the monthly newsletter is the video with Dan and Kathy demonstrating a recipe. They are so much fun to watch!Cons
I do not have any Cons. I joined about 1 year ago and do not have as many cookbooks as others so I have not experienced any slowdown.
Summary
I am so happy that I tried Cook'n. They have a life-long customer. The support team is great! When I was having a problem, they did a remote connection with my computer and solved
my problem.
I have a Zutter machine that I use for the scrapbook hobby. I plan on making my own cookbook - thanks to Cook'n!!
