  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This program seems like it has a fairly decent start to build on. The problem is, it's at little more than a starting stage. If all you're looking for is something that's a step up from a text file or excel database listing of your books, then this will make you happy. It's a great way to list everything you've got, enter in some details like inks, pencils, cover art, year, publisher, etc. But for anything approaching seriously collecting the features fall pretty short. And that coming from someone who's no where near a serious collector. To it's benefit, this program LOOKS really nice. The GUI is great, and about as simple as it can be. The cover image view is really nice, especially the ability to drag it around like a dashboard widget so you can see what's underneath on the screen. A+ on the design side of things. This is really where things start to go downhill though. As far as functionality there are a few glaring errors. First and foremost, perhaps one of the most important fields to a collector is CONDITION. Nowhere in this program can you enter the condition of the comics in question. Also, while it would be great to somehow get a realtime update of the current value of the books off the internet, I'm not holding my breath as that seems to be limited to a few high-end (and high priced) Windows Apps. However at least the option of adding a text field for user input prices would be a nice addition. And for even an extra added boost of functionality (making this program actually viable as anything other than freeware) maybe the ability to track changing prices you've entered in some type of bar graph or something. But that's another topic entirely. Another big note is the absurdity of including the websearch capability as a main feature. While it's good in theory, in actual practice it's useless. I don't know where the data is coming from, but a search for "x-men" turned up only 12 issues in the database. That would be like MS Office including a spell checker that was right about 15% of the time. All in all it's not even a feature worth mentioning at this point. This program does show some promise (though to be honest, with little to no competition on the OS X platform, that's not hard) but it's still a long way from being a truly useful App. Let alone something anyone should actually have to pay for.

Overall, the app isn't bad but it really isn't worth any kind of "2.0" moniker. It's close to a 1.0, but it's still missing features I have a hard time imagining missing from a first release. At first, I thought I could do without them, but at this point, this app will just sit in my application folder without being used ever again.</p> <p>Downsides I'm seeing:</p> <ul><li>Connecting to the internet to get covers and data is nice, but since you're using an incomplete volunteer-based system, there is a lot missing. Not just obscure stuff - twenty or so issues of Grant Morrison's New X-Men run, for example.</li> <li>Adding stuff is <i>painful</i>. Where is a batch add? where is a batch 'download these issues from the internet' option? i have a long list of books I have, I really don't want to enter them one by one.</li> <li>If there's ever been an app that could benefit from copying the itunes interface, it's this one. As it is, it's hard to find things and it's hard to view things in a series context. how about at least a folder system, or a click arrow to expand style subelement system?</li> </ul>

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I suppose it's good enough as a simple list of information, but I'm having trouble getting past how poorly-behaved it seems to be. A couple of big no-nos right up front include the silent creation of new files right in the user's home directory, and an incorrectly-named preferences file - one that could easily be destroyed if another author were to use the same shortcut.

• Titles Vs Series/Number vs Story number

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />The Placement of title and series need to be switched. title I take to be the name of the story in the individual issue. where series is the name of the particualr comic like Uncanny X-Men or just X-Men. The series should be in the main window and title should be in the bottom drop down window/drawer. Same goes for the "story number" and just "number". Why if I make a print out would I not want the name of the comic listed. This seems to be the best comic catalogung software out there that doest require X11 of Filemaker. but the field placement needs to make more sense. I really wanna buy/use it cuz it definitely has potential but will not be doing so.

Other ways to view your collection would be great (by series for example) and an actual manual would be helpful. Some of the terminology is confusing also (what's the differrence between "Comic" and "Comic Book"??)- a manual could clear this up. So far so good, but I hope this developer continues work on it. It could be, and should be, better. The upgrade price is also a bit steep.
