Editors' review

Among the viruses, worms, Trojans, and other nasty things lurking on the Internet are keyloggers, pernicious little bits of code that record everything you type. Whether you're trying to protect passwords and credit card numbers or the contents of sensitive e-mails, CoDefender is a welcome weapon in the Web security arsenal.

The premise behind CoDefender is simple; it encrypts and scrambles everything you type, leaving keyloggers with a bunch of gibberish instead of a record of your keyboard use. Although the program foils the attempts of keyloggers, it doesn't interfere at all with what you're actually typing; we tried it with Firefox and hardly noticed that it was running, aside from a small window that appeared and showed the scrambled version of what we were typing. The window also alerts you when you switch to an unprotected program; the free version of the program only protects Firefox and Internet Explorer, but the standard version, of which users can get a free 30-day trial, offers protection for a wide variety of applications, including Microsoft Office products. Users simply choose which programs they want to protect and CoDefender adds them to its list. The program is always easily accessible in the system tray, allowing users to quickly adjust settings if needed. The built-in Help file is well-written and thorough. Overall, we found CoDefender to be both versatile and easy to use, and we think it's a great defense against keyloggers.

CoDefender is free to try. The program installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to all users.

    "Best anti-keylogger"

    October 26, 2011   |   By djm01

    Version: CoDefender 1.2.281

    Pros

Excellent customer support. No bugs so-far. Replaces the keyboard driver so hackers probably must modify this driver - should be at least some degree of difficulty for them. Not a hugely popular download so maybe not a large hacker target.

    Cons

No support for non-English keyboard layouts. Conflicts with Trusteer Rapport feature "Block Browser Process Alteration". This Rapport feature can be turned off. A PC running MS Windows and connected to the internet is not 100% secure - no exceptions. Not on 10-26-2011 and probably not in my lifetime.

    Summary

The best I could find. Using it for a week. Seems OK.

"Easy to setup and use. Very versatile."

    August 28, 2011   |   By pyrojody69

    Version: CoDefender 1.2.281

    Pros

You can use this with most programs that require you to input keyboard entries. No one will be able to figure out what you typed.

    Cons

You need the full product to use it with Google Chrome. But, it's worth the price.

    Summary

You get a product that is versatile enough to modify the programs you want it to work with. And anyone trying to monitor your keystrokes if you get a trojan that tries to capture what your doing will be wondering what the heck you just typed? Great program.
