"I had to manually program it every time to scan"
Pros: I did not like anything about it
Cons: i disliked everything
Summary: this program never detected anything. Only scanned when I manually scanned

"The product seems to do the job"
Pros: It catched some things in the first pass... good!
Cons: The lack of real time protection is a big issue & forces the user to be more vigilant!
Summary: The fact that is free & readily available makes it a real alternative.

Version: ClamWin Antivirus 0.95.3
"The Only Reasonable Alternative To Avast"
Pros: Easy to install. Stable program and not slow in scanning. It scans faster than avast. I do not have "Errors on DNS resolver on Win9x" after updating manual. You can right click on file(s) to scan with ClamWin. No error(s) and no problem(s).
Cons: ClanWin does not have real time protection, so every virus can infect and harm your computer even when ClamWin is installed.
Summary: I recommend ClanWin as a good alternative to avast, which will support 95,98,ME,NT until the end of 2009. And ClamWin is 100% Free.
