Caedium Professional is ideal for assessing the performance of concept designs by creating geometry, simulating fluid flow with heat transfer, and visualizing results under both steady-state and transient conditions. Caedium Professional is an affordable, easy-to-use, integrated simulation environment that contains the following add-ons: RANS Flow - use state-of-the-art RANS CFD to simulate realistic (viscous) gas (e.g. air) or liquid (e.g. water) flow with heat transfer around and through your design to determine flow directions and forces (e.g., lift and drag); Panel Flow - use a panel method to simulate idealized (inviscid) gas (e.g. air) or liquid (e.g. water) flow around streamlined shapes and through simple ducts to determine flow directions and forces (e.g., lift); Builder - create and modify your own 2D and 3D geometry designs; Transient - explore time-dependent simulations and visualization of results; Exchange - import and export STEP, IGES and faceted file formats (including COLLADA from Google SketchUp); Viz Export - export your 3D results to high resolution, high quality renderers and other visualization packages.
What's new in this version: Note: 4.0.2.1 fixes a problem with missing files in the installer. Pros
Very fast rendering, great product in such a small package. Demo content available to highlight the capabilities of the software.
Cons
The installer does not include the modelling component, which requires additional purchase.
Summary
This is the only publicly available 3D CFD software for the Mac, that I could find. The only other one out there that I could find after a lengthy google search was from NASA, and has hefty restrictions on it's use. Bravo to the developer of Caedium for making it available! I have always been interested in Aerospace design on a 'personal hobby' level, but until now I had to draw a mental picture of how I thought airflow might occur around an object. Caedium, on that note, seems good on a hobbyist level, but I can't say with certainty how it might fare within professional industry application, as I do not use it at that level.
