    Version: Base64 Encoder/Decoder 1.1

"Terrible user interface! I'd rather use a console application!"

    by higgins1010 on December 12, 2007

Cons: Worst Windows user interface I?ve ever seen! Click(1) on Browse to select a file, then click(2) on Conversion type (does not auto detect Base64 files) then click(3) Convert button. (Fails to detect common MIME headers and skip them for you, must edit out and start over). It stops with a ?Confirm conversion? dialog and waits until you click(4) OK before proceeding then insists you click(5) OK in a ?Conversion complete? dialog box. Finally, click(6) Save to write it out. (Fails to suggest a file name based on the input file). Six mouse-clicks just to convert one file! (Not counting clicking to browse to the input file). This is a textbook example on how NOT to write interactive user interfaces!

THEN, it keeps the input and output files open and locked so you cannot view them with other programs until you close this program!

Before you can even install, it requires a 2Gbyte download of the MicroSquishy .NET Framework! Base64 is easy to encode/decode, you shouldn?t need a huge library to implement it. Unless the library is for the terrible user interface.

    "Doesnt work; poor interface"

    on November 18, 2008

    Pros: Small footprint.

Cons: Doesn't work. Doesn't convert to base64 (useless). Converting a file back and forth doesn't return the same result (incredible).

    Summary: Disappointing.
