"This is not the software you are looking for."

May 22, 2012  |  By lpt3

 |  Version: BPMer 1.1.11

Pros

Ran without crashing in standard configuration

Cons

1) Some files had their artist, album, title or genre field jumbled up (e.g. Android would become something like nArdiod). Sometimes it was all four fields, sometimes it was one. It's been a month or two and I'm still finding these occasionally.
2) Some files that had BPM data previously were left with no BPM data at all.
3) Demo version over-writes comments in your tags saying that the BPM was determined by BPMer, and the pro version neglects to remove these. I hope you don't keep anything interesting in your comment tags if you use the demo version.
4) The log file is almost entirely useless. BPMer told me there were errors but the log only had a list of every file scanned followed by "updated", "up-to-date" or "filtered due to genre". No error messages to be found.

Summary

This software bills itself as functional, but is anything but. It will leave your id3 tags a mess, and it won't even correctly add BPM data to all of the files it damages. Don't even think about looking for a support forum, FAQ or list of common problems, either... Because there aren't any. Don't even hope that they'll respond to your e-mails. It didn't happen for me, and there's nothing to suggest it will happen for anyone else. I'd say use Windows via Parallels and run MixMeister for a better solution. Anything but this.

"Stay Away. Seriously !"

December 20, 2011  |  By Jean Guy Nadeau

 |  Version: BPMer 1.1.11

Pros

Ease of use

Cons

Be careful if you use the BPMer option to reduce intros. The result is not good at all, even awful, and the app does not allow you to reverse this reduction. You will have to do it manually song by song. And you don't want to do it a library containing thousands of songs. Ouch !

Summary

Don't do as I did.

"Avoid like the plague."

January 02, 2011  |  By cazzypoo

 |  Version: BPMer 1.1.11

Pros

Uh...nothing

Cons

The beat matching is inaccurate, it took almost a day to tag my library (100Gb), re-wrote around 10% of my ID3 tags, removed album art references and couldn't work out the all BPMs for my library. It even skipped electronic music with a clear beat.

Summary

There are far better tools out there. Given the time required to analyse your music library and fix it once this software has ruined your ID3 tags, I'd have been better off getting a free tool (like Virtual DJ) and manually editing the track info - even with a 100gb library. Don't run this, let alone buy it, unless your library is a complete mess anyway.

"Far from perfect"

July 07, 2010  |  By cokead

 |  Version: BPMer 1.1.11

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I would urge you to try the demo first--if that works for you, chances are the full version will, too. However, MY full version did the following:

1. skipped entire CDs (not DRM-protected)
2. assigned entire CDs the same BPM across the board
3. assigned languid ballads insane BPMs in the 900s
4. changed all the foreign characters in song titles to gibberish/nonsense

Bottom line, it's been next to useless for me--all I wanted to do was assemble some workout/running playlists based on BPM. So much for that modest goal.

They seem to have disappeared, as my pleas for support go unanswered and there's no sign of recent life on the website. Still, they're set up to collect payments.
