  I have never managed to burn a DVD using avi2dvd that kept the audio and video in sync

  terrible - find another solution, and don't bother wasting your DVDs on this garbage. I couldn't imagine anyone actually paying for the full version of this software

  Main menu customization pretty easy (custom images and such)

  Actual encoding not very easy Very inconsistent performance (same settings, different outcomes)

  Summary

  I used to use this program to create custom menus for avi files before converting to iso files. It works... sometimes. The first may work perfectly fine but may be different the next (didn't mess with the settings except for the PAL to NTSC conversion option). Very frustrating! Using the same settings yet getting different outcomes is quite annoying to put it lightly. May I say this: this program has given me many headaches. I would not recommend this program.

  Pros

  Excellent software!!! DON'T let the bad reviews mislead you! Greatly simplifies the PITB DVD encoding process into an automated "Click 'n' go" task. Even if you don't have any idea what you're doing with the options there's a guide on their website..

  Cons

  Too "complex" for lower-end users who don't know anything about video encoding. Though any user with a brain who is still clueless about video will be able to figure out how to go to the software's website for a basic tutorial that explains things...

  Summary

  Was leery of AVI2DVD at first because of all the bad reviews. So glad I decided to take a chance and try it anyway because this is the best, if not only, free DVD conversion tool available. There are absolutely NO banners/watermarks, so disregard the review that said there were. The programs it installs are all good programs with absolutely NO cr@pware bundled; it's basically an easy-to-use (with some video-conversion knowledge required though) front-end that simplifies the DVD-encoding process by combining all the background programs into a single, one-click process without requiring any command-line knowledge or forcing you to divide the process into several smaller tasks. A+++ software, 6/5 stars

  Not good for people who have no idea what to do. This is only good for those with a basic understanding on how video files work.

  Summary

  I was able to author a DVD with this tool easily without having to deal with the files manually. Good for those who have a basic understanding of video files, but not in-depth enough to manually make your own DVD.

  Pros

  Unintended comedic value when it sped up the musical I was recording to DVD and half-chipmunked all the voices.

  Cons

  I used default options, and it nearly chipmunked everyone's voice ... It also chopped off the edges of the video, which was probably half my fault for not unsetting it from widescreen when my TV is old.

  Summary

  Not Recommended at all, unless you want to create DVDs that are slightly sped up...

  Cost nothing, so I wasted nothing but time.

  Unpacks and installs a bundle of products without telling you what they are for, what options you need or how to use. No help files, guidance, or any assistance for user.

  Summary

  The product does not work. It keeps insisting I select an audio stream, and I have no idea what they are talking about. The proper usage of this software is apparently obvious to experts and the person who wrote it. For mere mortals such as I, it is useless. It might be great if they bothered to assist the user, but for me it was an exercise in frustration.

  I havent bothered trying. I just want to convert 1 file, so am looking for a free program where "free" means fully functional, no limits and NO NAG MESSAGES!

  AVI2DVD is an incredibly flexible program that allows for changes in aspect ratio, integration of multiple audio tracks, conversion from NTSC to PAL, addition or removal of subtitles and a powerful menu creator. And, it's open source (free).

  Cons

  Not for people who don't want to locate and find instructions.

  Summary

  Does more than what most programs do that you have to pay for.

  too difficult unless you're a computer geek. It also kept freezing on me every time I loaded a file.

  Summary

  I tried converting several files, found some online support and instructions. I still couldn't get it to work for me. I'm not that knowledgeable in computer software but I know how to follow directions. I downloaded a different program (not free) and couldn't believe how easy it was. You drag and drop your files, hit the convert button and you're done. It even burned it on DVD after it was done. Way too easy.
