Minimalism throughout: Avast Mac Security 2015 pares settings down to a basic interface with only five primary buttons.

Complete protection: The Avast program can scan your system for existing problems and can also be configured to protect you from new threats. You can also scan external drives and volumes to ensure that you're completely protected from infected files.

Cons

Relatively slow scan: When you're doing a complete system scan, it is always going to take a considerable amount of time. Avast's Mac Security 2015 seems to take exceptionally long. It took more than 4 hours to complete a total system scan.

Inaccurate progress bar: During testing, it was impossible to tell how much time was remaining in the system scan. Immediately after testing started, the progress bar jumped up to 100 percent and then continued to increase the percentage count, with no further movement in the bar.

Bottom Line

If you don't already have virus protection in place on your Mac, this is a worthy choice. It is streamlined, easy to use, and has all of the features that you need in this type of software.
