"No license available"

September 27, 2012  |  By lorigee

 |  Version: Audio Hijack 2.2.6

Pros

The program works fine for the initial testing, until you find out that you need a license to continue.

Cons

The program intentionally adds noise to any sound file after the initial tests unless you purchase a license. When you try to purchase a license and register, you will find the program is no longer supported. You cannot purchase a license, making the program essentially useless. (Why don't they want my money? I was ready to pay for the license.)

Summary

The program is no longer supported. It adds noise after initial tests. You cannot purchase a license for it. Therefore, it is no longer worthwhile. It's a pity, because the first tests were great and I wanted to purchase the program. I don't know why people bother to make great software and then refuse to take your money because it's "old." Seems like easy money to me.

"I used Hijack 2.2.6 reliably w superb results for years"

July 17, 2011  |  By Arfitact

 |  Version: Audio Hijack 2.2.6

Pros

Pretty intuitive.
Absolutely accurate to one-hundreth seconds, if you need to trim/create tracks so precisely.
Seems to be able to save unlimited number of scheduled items - e.g. every 54-minute long radio program, ev day, etc. WOW.

Cons

Can't sort list of saved actions/schedules.
No apparent way to create dead space for between tracks.
If recording a RA stream, Hijack doesn't know when one RA Player is already open altho it only records the correct source, it's messy.
No auto-trash.

Summary

Incredible power and ease of use for a free app - works integrally with iTunes. Beautiful! As is everything from Amoeba, IMHO. (from a happy customer for years!)

"Free upgrade for OSX 10.5 compatibility"

October 21, 2007  |  By McGarrett

Summary

This is a free update for licensed users to make Audio Hijack OSX 10.5 compatible. Audio Hijack's developers have a long history of consumer-friendly policies and applications, and I am thankful they're offering this update to existing customers who don't want to purchase the Pro version. Thanks Rogue Amoeba!

"Another cracker from RA"

Like Airfoil, Audio Hijack is a lovely little bit of kit. It's stable and reliable, and I use it to record streamed media so I can create "podcasts" to listen to later.

As Neil Kinnock might have said, it's lovely, lovely, lovely.

"Eureka!"

 |  Version: Audio Hijack 2.2.3

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Before I got hold of Audio Hijack I'd been recording through my iMic using the high end (and over priced) Bias Peak. It worked OK but barely. Constant problems with managing volume changes via the attached HiFi system and picking up system sounds on my recordings.

For those who've never tried Hijack, I'd say the best thing about the recordings it makes are that the audio is pulled straight off the digital stream directly from the application being hijacked. Therefore it's clean, free from system sounds and the limitations of my analog HiFi. And most importantly, I can change the volume of my speaker output without affecting the recording.

Took a little while to get used to the interface, but it works reliably with every application I've tried to hijack, including: iTunes, Radio365 player, and VLC player.

Since I've already paid for it, I'm comfortable with Bias Peak to split the hours long AIFF files I tend to hijack into svelte sized MP3s for the iPod. Therefore this version suits me well. I'm sure Hijack Pro would have been a much cheaper way to go. (sigh)

"Audio Hijack is excellent"

April 22, 2005  |  By zymphus

 |  Version: Audio Hijack 2.2

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I used to use AH to record BBC Radio 3 over the internet and I was always pleased with the results. Now I use it to record from my new DAB tuner and the recordings are even better.

When I first attempted recording DAB I was unable to get the audio signal from the digital input of my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card through to AH, so I emailed Rogue Amoeba for advice. I got a very useful response the following day. Their advice helped me progress but not to the stage where I was able to make a recording. It turned out that the fault lay not with Audio Hijack but with the latest update to the M-Audio Delta control panel, so I reinstalled the previous version (1.2.1) and it works superbly.

Audio Hijack even allows me to boost the unprocessed signal used by BBC Radio 3 so that the levels are better.

I use Audio Hijack very often and think it is worth every penny (or cent).

What's new in version 3.0
  • Holy Wow! Audio Hijack 3 is a completely redesigned upgrade to all previous Audio Hijack apps. If you've ever purchased a product called "Audio Hijack", you can upgrade to Audio Hijack 3 with a great discount. Nice!
  • Session Templates - For a quick way to begin common tasks, look no further than Session Templates. Common tasks in Audio Hijack are now faster than ever.
  • Multiple Recorders in One Session - Want to record to both the MP3 and AIFF formats at once, or record different sources in sync? Just add multiple Recorder Blocks to get multiple files!
  • Bulletproof Audio Recording - Every format in Audio Hijack is now bulletproof, so even if your computer crashes, you'll never lose a recording again.
  • Denoise, Declick, Dehum - Clean up dirty audio with these custom audio effects, powered by audio technology licensed from industry leader iZotope.
  • Simplified Audio Effects - Harness the power of audio effects without needing a degree in audio engineering.
  • Audio Block Presets - Saving presets for an Equalizer is obvious, but how about other settings? With Audio Hijack 3's new presets, you can save configurations for almost every Block, then instantly use them in other Sessions.
  • Improved Instant On - Capture audio from already-running apps, as well as all System Audio at once. If you haven't looked at Audio Hijack for a while, you'll be thrilled to see that installation and updates to Instant On no longer require a restart.
  • Streamlined Recording Options - Audio Hijack offers a half-dozen sensible defaults for recording. Of course, if you're looking for powerful recording options, they're still available too.
  • FLAC Recording - Audiophiles will be thrilled to record directly into the lossless FLAC format.
  • HE-AAC Recording Too - Audio Hijack can now record in the high-efficiency AAC (HE-AAC) format as well.
  • Full-Screen Mode - Whether configuring a tricky Session or focusing on a recording, going full-screen helps you focus.
  • Massively Improved Accessibility - We know many visually impaired users love Audio Hijack, and we've worked hard to make it fully accessible with Apple's VoiceOver.
  • The Ducking Effect - With this effect, one signal can automatically be ducked under another, based on input levels.
  • The Time Shift Effect - Still in its infancy, this effect enables you to pause and delay audio in your chain. Pause audio entirely, jump backwards or forwards 10 seconds, or jump back to Live.
  • The New Volume Effect - Overdrive audio to maximize the output from small speakers like those found on laptops.
  • Full Cocoa Audio Unit Support - We've cut VST, LADSPA and older Carbon and 32-bit Audio Unit effects, but you can still add on modern (64-bit Cocoa) third-party Audio Unit plugins.
  • Control-click an Audio Unit's block to select the generic interface, if the plugin's custom interface is not desired. This can be especially helpful for visually impaired users.
  • Output Device Blocks include a built-in monitor control for output volumes. Adjust this to lower the volume locally, without affecting your recording.
  • Quick access to your recording location is now available right in the Recorder block, by clicking the magnifying glass.
  • Some rarely-used ID3 tags were culled. If you miss them, sorry!
  • Audio Effects now look great, and work great too.
  • The Channels effect (a replacement for Channel Tweaker) is far simpler to understand.
  • So very much more - this update is so massive, we don't have room to list all of the changes!
