Version: Ashampoo Burning Studio Free 6.77
"Practically Idiot Proof!"
Pros: I'm a fortysomething with zero tech knowledge. The Nero software that came with my DVD burner had no instructions and I had no idea what to do with it. This works similar to burning a CD from Itunes or Rhapsody etc.
Cons: A little more hand holding (step by step instructions, maybe some thing you could turn on and off depending on you ability level) would be appreciated, especially for the DVD burning functions.
Summary: I'm impressed that I was able to burn my first ever DVD in less than 10 minutes including set up time with this program. I messed with Nero for DAYS. Burned a CD for a friend tonight in less than 5 minutes including set up. That's awesome for a old-ish computer impaired chick like me. I'll definitely consider buying the full version if it does anything else I find myself needing. Seems like this free version does most of what I'll ever need right now. Thank You CNet and Ashampoo! Love the company name, reminds me of that bit on Saturday Night Live with them doing the "Joe Peshi" show, replacing all the cuss words with the word "shampoo".... "I'll shampoo you, you dirty shampooer!" I'll never think of the word shampoo the same way again. Hehehe. But seriously, thanks guys, us idiots appreciate the break.

Version: Ashampoo Burning Studio Free 6.77
"Nero needs to learn a few things or two from these guys"
Pros: Very useful for that generic CD / DVD Burner you picked up off eBay. Uncrippling features , the ability to rip music and more
Cons: Ugh! The toolbar offers never stop, but this one does not force you to install their toolbar to install the main software like some I have seen out there. No Lightscribe features for this version.
Summary: I recently acquired a CD Burner from eBay that was brand new and did not have software. I tried some stuff such as Nero BurnLite10, CDBurner XP , and StarBurn, and they all fell short of my expectations and were a either too feature limiting , or I did not like their interface and constant nagging to purchase the software. This software is easy on the eye, its interface is well thought out for people with eye vision problems, and the buttons are easy to see and what each feature does and does not do. This software is minimalistic in advertising, it only asks you if you want to purchase the full version of the software or learn about it durning updates. I say if you want something totally different from the rest, then give it a try. You have nothing to lose, and can decline their toolbar without losing any functionality.

2) Create Music CD's and Movie DVD's
3) Copy (Exact) CD's and DVD's
4) Backup CD's DVD's
5) Create CD/DVD Images

Version: Ashampoo Burning Studio Free 6.77
"Great product for free"
Pros: It does all what a regular user needs to do. It doesn't cost you anything, small in size, and light on your resources. What more do you need. Forget about the costly huge programs that you don't use much.
Cons: Nothing so far.
Summary: Free, small in size, and does the job.

Pros: Straightforward, effective, fast.
Cons: None to speak of, but it would be nice to have Ashampoo do a ripper of equal quality.

Version: Ashampoo Burning Studio Free 6.77
"It did what I wanted (basic data burning to DVD) free!"
Pros: Easy to use, I didn't need to learn about ISO, UDF, Joliet or other formats. The product installed and worked. Unlike many of the free downloads I tried, it isn't functionality, file size or time limited.
Cons: None so far, but I haven't needed to copy video DVDs, audio CDs or anything else like that.
Summary: In addition to my comments in the Pros section, it isn't too intrusive and doesn't appear on every menu in my PC.
