Arachnophilia is a successor to WebThing, a popular HTML editor. This robust application can import and automatically convert RTF documents, tables, and outlines from any Windows 95-compliant application to HTML. It also supports up to six Web browsers, CGI, frames, Perl, C++, Java, and JavaScript development. Other features include a built-in, intelligent FTP client, automatic uploading of changed files, user-defined templates, user-customizable toolbars for quick access to frequently used tags, global search and replace; and a multiple-document interface with full drag-and-drop capabilities. In addition, Arachnophilia includes built-in tutorials on HTML development, JavaScript, frames, and the Internet.
What's new in this version: Version 5.5 build 2803 has fixed a bug in a numeric parser that failed to detect a hexadecimal modifier.

"Modest but so handy..."

Pros
Simpler, faster and much more productive than sophisticated source editors like UltraEdit and such.
Cons
I agree with many other reviewers: old non-Java Arachnophilia 4.0 was better and I still use it a lot. This is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 - the old one deserves the 5 stars, one gets addicted to it!
Summary
Not too many bells and whistles, but that's exactly its strength: all you need for day-to-day source code editing is there, quick, easy, fast and light. It does, however, have some neat features - the "beautify" feature, easy HTML entity coding for diacritics, search in multiple files... But I keep both Arachnophilia 5.5 and old 4.0 installed here. The old one is still the handiest thing I know and I use it for many kinds of text files, not only HTML. I always find myself using it more than the newer version. Anyway, many thanks, Paul Lutus, for one of my favorite and most loved little programs of all time!

.....especially since you can't even understand the buttons. x_x
Summary
Who designed the interface, a bunch of drunk monkeys? O.O
I ask because, when you open it, you spend the first 30 minutes trying to figure out the commands buttons - ending up with a huge migraine.
Tons of better products out there, this one ain't worth the hassle. -

i've used htis for building web pages and it's great for personal web pages. I wouldn't know about making pages for commercial use. It's fairly easy to use if you will just r4ead the instrusctions. It desn't expire and no nag screens..
Cons
The old non Java based Arachnophilia could be modified as to what kind of files you could search for and insert links. This Java based one cannot be changed to do that. at least with my knowledge of Java. So I still use the old Arach for some things
Summary
The old Windows based Arachnophilia could be modified so that you could change the type of files you looked for when inserting file names in links etc. But the new one is Java based and I just don't have the knowledge to be able to modify it to do that. But I still think Paul Lutus deserves a big thank you for providing these programs and keeping the old one available. Asking us to pay the kindness forward is a small price and well worth it.

Easy intuitive interface. Very configurable.

Only that it lacks the splendid RTF to HTML converter of Version 4.
Summary
Version 5 is good, but I also still use Version 4 (the last Windows based version) because it has a really useful feature: you can drag and drop an RTF file onto Arachnophilia 4 (or just the shortcut to it) and it will convert it to an HTML file. Very handy for rapid web development.

Pros
I've used other versions of Arachnophilia, but was not sure if this one would work on Vista or not. It does. What I like best about it is that it doesn't interfere with what I'm trying to do. I don't like wizards much, and prefer to do all my own tags. Other editors I've tried since I've had Vista (and there haven't so far been many of them) try to finish my tags for me, and I find that annoying.

I extracted all of the files in the archive in the Arachnophilia folder, but still didn't see any exe file. Nor did I see a readme file that would explain what the hell you're supposed to do to open the damn thing.
I've been using Arachnophilia for years, and it used to be my favourite HTML editor, but not anymore. I'm going to search for something else to download.

the user interface was nice and fairly simple to navigate. You can create different types of pages on the fly - php, javascript, etc. I also like the beautify code feature and the FTP service built in.
Cons
Still using the program and besides a few annoying moving toolbars, I can't complain
