"One of the better fractal generators."

January 08, 2012  |  By eg180

 |  Version: Apophysis 2.02

Pros

It works, it's easy to use and it's free. It's hands-down one of the best freeware fractal generators out there.

Cons

It's not really developed anymore and, to get newer versions with more functions, you have to go to their website and download .exe programs that you drop into your Apophysis folder and then have to manually make shortcuts for (it's not hard, I'm just saying that's how it is.)

Summary

Look, this thing is what it is. All it does is create fractals. Fractals are just swirly bits of color that, by themselves, are of very little interest. However, fractals can be used as the basis for space phenomena like nebulae and whatnot to be used to make standalone pictures or as backgrounds for 2D or 3D renders. However, you'll need some kind of vector graphics image manipulation software to make anything from the fractals. However, as freeware fractal creators go, Apophysis is one of the best.

"still trying to figure it out"

December 12, 2011  |  By kenfusion

 |  Version: Apophysis 2.02

Pros

pretty shapes, and colors.....shiny !fun to play with.

Cons

i have no idea how to save the work product as a usable file, and i cant seem to manipulate the forms to fatten then up. everything seems thin and minimal . i really wanted to make a looping flame video, but that possibility does not seem evident. i will try some more , and post an update if i have success.

Summary

it does something , but i am not really sure it makes something i can use without further processing with other software, or that it creates a file i can use with other software.

"excellent fractal program"

June 16, 2011  |  By kkai508

 |  Version: Apophysis 2.02

Pros

easy to use, plenty of tutorials on the net, you can manipulate the fractals into non fractal images

Cons

you need to add more color mixes, scripts and other extra's really use this program to the fullest extent

Summary

Love it. The creator has lots of extra's on deviantart. I learned to use the program w/all the extra's in less than a week and have since won awards with my art.

"Interesting and intuitive"

May 12, 2011  |  By StarFields

 |  Version: Apophysis 2.02

Pros

Instant success with this, immediately obvious how it works, what it does, and how you do it. Generates the kinds of bases for images that are near impossible to do with paint or vector programs and that look so snazzy in design.

Cons

It makes flames? But that's what it says on the box. No cons.

Summary

A very neat small program I'm going to use time and time again.

What's new in version 2.02
Supplied hqi.exe updated to 1.15. By default Vibrancy is now limited to 1. Old behaviour can be restored by setting the LimitVibrancy script variable to FALSE. Buffer depth drop down box on Export Flame dialog lets you choose between 16, 32 and 64 bit buffers for hqi.exe. Batches box on Export Flame dialog defaults to 1 when choosing 64 bit buffers, and Quality/4 otherwise. Strips box on Export Flame dialog lets you choose the number of strips that hqi.exe will use to render image. If you leave it at 1 hqi.exe will handle strips automatically (not on Windows 95/98/ME). Render check box decides whether hqi.exe will be run immediately. If it's unchecked Render.bat will be created but not executed. Render.bat file now created in folder of render location, not the install folder.
