Block pop-ups in Web browsers and ad-displaying programs.
Ad Muncher is a powerful advert and popup blocking system for all browsers and advert-displaying programs like Pando, SopCast, ICQ, Morpheus, Kazaa, Grokster, Opera, PalTalk, iMesh, Bearshare, LimeWire, TVAnts, etc.Ad Muncher can be configured to block anything that annoys you, with simple options to block common annoyances like: Music and sound; Colorful scroll bars; Self-bookmarking; Automatic page reloading; Customized bookmark and address bar icons; Interference with mouse clicks. You can add your own filters to remove any section of a site that bothers you. Some of the filter categories available include: Remove links to URL; Remove images with URL; Block retrieval of URL; Remove scripts with text; Remove tables with text; Remove divs/spans with text. You can also replace sections of a web site with your own content by using "Replace text" filters.Your privacy can be protected using the "IP Scramble" feature, which bounces your web page requests through dozens of different servers to hide your true location. Ad Muncher also allows you to mask your browser's "user-agent" and "referrer" fields so website operators can't see which browser you are using or track where you were visiting last.Ad Muncher makes browsing the web enjoyable again, try it yourself and see.
best ad block-the advertisers are leaving negative rev
komentarz
Pros
blocks all ads
Cons
no cons I can see after using this app for 2 years
Summary
the advertisers are rating this app low and saying it's a virus because they can't bribe the company to "leak" their garbage to the public.
Excellent Windows ad blocking but becoming abandonware?
markbyrn
Pros
Not just a browser extension but a full Windows application that worked for most all browsers and Internet applications.
Cons
WIndows only; no Mac version.
Summary
When I primarily moved to the Mac, the one Winows app that I missed perhaps the most was Ad Muncher; it's far and away superior to browser extensions like Ad Block Plus. The biggest problem with Ad Muncher was it's recent past when it was ridiculous overpriced software with complex per machine licensing and while I paid for it, most apparently didn't and it wasn't popular except perhaps with the pirates. Almost a year ago though, the developer made it free with optional donations but at the same time, the developer has stopped updating his website with any kind of news since Oct 2014. There's no point in using this type of software unless it's continually updated, esp. since the ad blocking can break site functionality.
Very bad and useless program, can damage your computer
fatTomCat
Pros
I can't find any good reasons to use it.
Cons
- brake sites;
- filters internet traffic;
- can steal your personal data;
- slows your computer and browser.
Summary
Do not use this software!
It's no longer helpful with regard to ad blocking
Domelo
Pros
Nothing favorable but devastating.
Cons
Didn't block any ads on youtube, facebook and other heavy sites. Slowed down my system and a lot more other things.
Summary
It didn't block any ads in youtube nor in facbook or any other website and started giving errors. Also, it was using higher system resources that's the reason my system slowed down to dangerour level. I'm now using adguard - adblock and am happy that it never created any issue so far.
False advertising, misleading, barely functional.
Smither10
Pros
Used to be good!
Cons
No Internet Explorer support.
No GZIP support.
No Google Support.
No support for filtering Windows 8X apps.
No HTTPS filtering
In effect a barely functional overpriced product being marketed with fraudulent claims by dishonest folks. Even the owner of AM hasn't posted on his own forum in 3 years! Their new version is totally vaporware.
Summary
Avoid this like the plague. Try Adguard!
Terrible, don't download it!
lorryfran
Pros
None. I'm sure it comes with malware!
Cons
Doesn't work with Internet Explorer 11 and a whole lot of rubbish was downloaded with it that I found very hard to get rid of. I'm sure there is some malware that comes with it. I had to do a system recovery to get rid of most of them. Be careful downloading this program! I have since removed it eventually!
Summary
Download at your own risk!
Problem Acknowledged, Fix Available but Withheld
StephenB427
Pros
Program, until recently, seemed to work as designed. Program easy to disable if a desire to see advertisements.
Cons
Current version (4.93.33707/4982) has a bug acknowledged by Tech Support and reportedly fixed by version 4996. However, this fix is only available to premium subscribers notwithstanding it is a "fix" and not a version with new/improved features.
Summary
Quick but unsatisfactory response by Tech Support. It seems to me that a bug fix should be provided to "all" subscribers asap.
Dishonest company that screwed me over
MARKDHM
Pros
It worked for a while
Cons
It doesn't work now.
Summary
These people are snake oil salesmen. Do business with them at your own risk. Be smarter than me, pick an alternative.
Past its prime for the money
Zootopia3000
Pros
Can get rid of a few ads that the free adblock and other free alternatives cannot.
Cons
Still no HTTP 1.1 support, making web browsing actually slower on a number of sites even with the ads removed. Hulu now detecting Ad Muncher and no hope of having it resolved by the Ad Muncher team. New drop down menu toolbar instead of an easy right click context menu. Recent forced beta use rather than a final version to get filters updates. Being now forced into beta for filters updates, a premium paid license instead of basic paid license is required to receive some beta updates. No other paid software provider would even think of doing this. The pricing, especially the premium pricing, is not worth the the pros listed, which amounts to one pro as you can see.
With the recent beta issue I chose to just uninstall my paid basic version of Ad Muncher. The final reply from the Ad Muncher team... "You still don't get it... Take care and so long".
Summary
If you download this software(v4.92 Final), be prepared to have to update to a beta version to receive filters updates(v4.92 Final no longer supported for filters updates), and be prepared to shell out for a premium license to receive some beta updates. The premium pricing is most definitely not worth the pros provided. A basic license? The free alternatives can do almost as good. ALSO NOTE: You have to pay for each PC use, whether it's basic or premium.
Cnet installer an annoying useless piece of junk.
ronc2
Pros
I've used Ad Muncher on other PCs and it works quite well for my purposes. I have nothing bad to say about it, it makes web browsing and reading my web-based email a much more pleasant experience.
I have to award a star to post this, but the star is for Ad Muncher, not Cnet.
Cons
The Cnet downloader came with Webroot Secure Anywhere as an optional addition. I've used Webroot products and trust them, so I clicked "agree" to install it. Without asking permission, it made a full scan of my system, found 3 instances of malware and removed them. One it considered malware was the Cnet installer. Webroot then rebooted, scanned again, found 1 more malware, removed it, scanned again foun 6 more malwares 1/2 of which were those it had removed the first two times. It removed the file I'd come to Cnet to download, I feel it did this because the installer had an .exe.exe extension, often a sign of malware. After all this, scanning/rebooting 3 times, the software I wanted from Cnet had been removed! In the future I will seek elsewhere for my software downloads, I refuse to use download.com until that irritating Installer is no longer a part of Cnet. Download.com worked quite well without that installer, and I won't visit download.com again until Cnet ceases to use it.
Summary
I've been a member of Cnet and have used download.com for many years, but the Cnet downloader is the straw that breaks this camel's back!
So long, download.com, we've had a good run, it's been good to know you, but your downloader and I simply cannot occupy the same cyberspace any longer!
