From Ariolic Software :Active SMART must have software to monitor the health status of the hard drives. It uses S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) to monitor the status of Hard Disk Drives, monitors the hard drives temperature, prevents data loss and predicts possible drive fails, using special algorithms. Active SMART allows every hard drive in the system to be monitored 24 hours a day for faults, overheating or other hazardous factors that may lead to a crash. Active SMART can be used on home PC and in corporate environment. No special knowledge required--Active SMART will alert user in case of problems with the hard drives.
Version 2.8 adds notebooks support, airflow temperature attribute.

Version: Active SMART 2.8
"Good Way for the Computer To Watch Your HDD's Fry"
Pros: It gives you a nice graph showing the trended temperature and for each of the smart parameters.
You can see how the HDD's reach their peak temperature in the hot afternoons and cool down at night.Cons: Doesn't work too well with a Raid Controller, It was able to see one of my pass-through drives but not the other.
My five HDD's reached 55 DegC & they were almost too hot to touch! Activesmart monitored the whole thing but didn't actually intervene.Summary: Overall the program works well as a trending tool but fails to act if things start getting hairy such as high temperatures or high read/write fail counts.
