SmartCrowding is an easy and user friendly decision support app. The solution helps mainly hospital staff to plan for high activity occurrences in order to reduce stress and waiting time through effective visualization and communication. The methods behind which the system is built are developed and tested by a large Norwegian health network since 2013. This R&D based problem solving tool has served to manage patient flow in an emergency department together and a health care organization as a whole. SmartCrowding is easily accessible for everyone both on mobile and web platforms, giving the possibility to have it on a big screen within a department. In addition, one would have a graphical overview of a department status and management plans. All the data required to define activity levels and management plans are easily configured by a hospital interface through a few easy steps to follow. The solution supports the most important operational confidence values, quality, effectiveness and responsiveness.

It is also possible to access historical data in order to learn from past activity levels and consequently drawing conclusions on high activity times in an emergency department for various measures regarding various periods of time.

In addition, the solution provides a prediction of future patient flows using historical data from external sources such as weather data. The correlations between the data sets will provide predictions on how many patients will be admitted to emergency for the coming week. This tool is however for educational and experimental purposes only.
