A video chat app for iPhone, OoVoo integrates with Facebook chat so you can talk with multiple Facebook friends at once. You can use a combination of video and text chat and can converse simultaneously with as many as 12 of your friends.

Contact integration: OoVoo allows you to find contacts through Facebook, Twitter, your email account, your phone's contacts, and by directly searching for friends who have an OoVoo account. The feature that identifies friends who are already using the app is especially useful.

Free video chatting: The ability to video chat effectively with multiple contacts at the same time is a treat. This piece of software provides real value for a free app.

Video quality: During testing, the app exhibited a good video quality. Some lag was apparent, but no more so than you would see in any of the competing apps on the market.

Sign up: The sign up process is quite exhaustive, requiring a considerable amount of information as well as phone number verification. Asking for the gender of the user without giving him or her the option to refuse to answer isn't appealing.

Advertising: The ad bar that displays along the bottom of the screen behaves unpredictably: sometimes it's blank, but clicking near it brings up an ad anyway; at other times it displays intrusive ads with constantly animated text. Fortunately, a 99-cent upgrade removes these ads.

Bottom Line

If video chatting with multiple people at the same time for free sounds fun to you, then OoVoo will not disappoint you. This app works as advertised and makes finding chat buddies easy enough.
