Ten years after the release of the PC fighter One Must Fall 2097, this robot-themed game returns with a 3D version that allows up to 16 online players to blast each other with an array of punches, kicks, and special and super attacks. With three of eight robots, a decent training mode, and multiplayer gameplay, the demo gives you a great chance to learn what this fighting game is all about.

In a sci-fi future, a popular sport involves "pilots" who control HARs (human-assisted robots) in arena-based battles. Pilot abilities involve stamina, focus, and other intangibles, whereas HARs are differentiated by attacks and special moves. A fairly simple attack system uses four keys for left and right punches and kicks. You can use directional, evade, and jump keys in conjunction with regular attacks to create special and super attacks, which depend on energy status. Throws and counterattacks also are possible, but back attacks are not, which is especially unfortunate in multiplayer battles.

The 3D, interactive environments are good fun, although graphics and sound are only so-so. Controlling your robot via keyboard is difficult (one reason why PC fighters are so rare); a game controller works much better. Although the fighting system doesn't hit the mark completely, One Must Fall: Battlegrounds succeeds with a unique premise and balanced gameplay.

One of the most unique experiences you will ever have. Visually stunning and originality that would make any one jealous, the game only recieves low scores in reviews because people aren't ready for this kind of 3D Fighting Game, especially not in the PC world. At least, not yet. --Having played this game from some of it's earliest beta revisions, the DE team has proven to me that they took on the challenge of learning new skills and techniques, and came out on top. After remaining nearly stagnant in the years after One Must Fall 2097, DE got on the task of Battlegrounds and never looked back. End result was an incredible experience for all gamers. --The singleplayer AI will provide some fun, and can be set to give advanced players quite a challenge. But if that ever gets old, you can always find your way into the online arenas. These Battlegrounds host a large community of players who (most of the time!) are willing to help new comers LEARN more about the game. --Some reviews may make the game sound poor, but the unique experience is only somewhat difficult to adjust to. Once you understand the controls, you'll find the game more and more exciting. The game play is smooth, the graphics are stunning, the sound quality is incredible, and the system specs required really aren't too demanding. The game simply is impressive and should not be ignored. I highly recommend this game to everyone, but especially parents who may not know what to get their kids - this game may settle an 11-15 year old's need for "violent video games" without having the head exploading, heart tearing, and limb chopping of other games (not to say they're bad, but if you're trying to remain a strict parent while your kid wants fighting games - this is an optimal solution).

The install program fails to isntal d3d9.dll every time I attempt and installed. WHen I run the game it errors out after "patching" saying it cannot find d3d9.dll and to reinstall the program. What a joke!

I dont know, this is different from the origional, OMF 2097 was the coolest! But it wont run in Win XP... it does maintain the storyline and material though, and i like that alot. I love that music so much!!!!

Not certain if fault lies in your server or my ISP but tried to download overnight, (your site indicated about a 20 hour time period0), and I was terminated by my ISP, ( JUNO Platinum 56k compressed file high speed ), supposedly due to " INACTIVITY ". I am disappointed with the INTEGRITY of the JUNO-DOWNLOAD.com communication-security attributes!!!

Instead of featuring two players facing off in a small space, Battlegrounds has up to 16 simultaneous players in huge arenas, fighting in team battles or all-out brawls.

The goal is to free you, the player, from the restrictions of the past and allow you to fight the way you've always wanted to.
