• Good, all-purpose documenter, note-keeper & Biblio pkg.

  Pros

  You can have as many files as you need for different information, one for business, one for studies, and one for general purpose. Its "last updated" feature gives solid legal documentation of "when" an idea got generated. Excellent product support.

  Cons

  That dark background on the tree side has gotta go. It's not as intuitive as it could be, but the price makes up for it.

  Summary

  NoteScribe is particularly good for someone who works and goes to school since it can have separate files for each. Excellent as an "idea catcher" for stuff you will need to know the source for later, whether for business, a school paper, or a personal project, and it doesn't screw up your word templates like other bibliography software. The tree design allows for control of what info goes where, and what sources are attached where, so it works great for students at all levels, and is priced for a student's budget. It has a nice assortment of biblio styles - APA, Chicago, MLA, all the big ones. It also allows for biblio entries for on-line sources, something free programs don't do. You can't tell it where to put the working files, but the backup can be put anywhere, and backup can be set to run every time it closes, so your info is safe. Everything remains on the hard drive so no chance of proprietary business information getting leaked. You can print the notes or save them in batch form to paste into a word processor, so they are easily accessible. The program seems very stable as it has never crashed on me, nor have I lost data. I have deleted Scholar's Aid Lite from my system since starting to use NoteScribe for two reasons: NoteScribe allows Internet biblio entries which Scholar's Aid Lite doesn't; and Scholar's Aid locked me out of my files permanently losing all my data when I changed computers and copied the files over, putting more than the limit of files in the directory due to multiple back-up copies. That can't happen with NoteScribe. The program is still under active development and the developers are very open to suggestions from users. It will be around for a long time and just gets better with age. NoteScribe is the only biblio package I've found that works the way I do.
