CNET Networks

Back when I started at CNET Download as the main Mac producer, part of my job was to go out into the wild world of the Internet to scout out new Mac programs. We used to get several submissions from software developers which we added and updated regularly, but if we wanted the big name titles, we often had to do the footwork ourselves. This meant we had to comb developer Web sites and other download sites to see what was out there. Whatever we found we would add to the software library.

Many things have changed over the years with the way developers submit programs and much of it is automated (the year 2000 version of me is angrily shaking his fist at how much easier it has become). All joking aside, when I want to find a program for a specific purpose or a big name product, I still head out to the Web and comb the old sites.

Just recently, that job got a whole lot easier. VersionTracker, one of the best software download sites on the Web, along with the other TechTracker properties including MacFixIt and iPhone Atlas, have officially joined the CNET family. If you're a Mac user (and a software addict like me), you've probably thumbed through their library of Mac software many times for driver updates and new programs. With the addition of TechTracker's group of expert Mac scouts and an amazing file library along with the additional useful sites, CNET is truly embracing Mac users and adding value to the overall CNET Download and VersionTracker experience.

As we begin to make the most of our TechTracker alliance over the coming months, check back here for more Mac stuff to explore and even more great Mac software to download.
