Apple's Support app is a handy way to get in touch with Apple support reps when you're facing a technical problem. But sometimes you want to know how to fix the issue yourself or simply learn how to use a specific product or feature. Now, the app can help you in those areas well.

With the new 3.0 version, the Apple Support app for iOS has added a search section that puts you in touch with Apple's vast library of support articles. The app suggests topics you may want to investigate, or you can search for specific articles by name or subject.

Adding access to troubleshooting articles greatly expands the app's usefulness. I typically use the Apple Support app when I want to talk to Apple technical support or schedule an appointment at my local Apple Store. But now I may be able to resolve my own technical issue by finding the right article through the app. Apple maintains a large library of support articles, so this seems a smart way to take advantage of them.

To access the support articles, tap the Search icon in the lower toolbar. In response, Apple suggests certain popular topics that may interest you. If not, type a name or topic in the Search field at the top. You can then filter the results by viewing them across all products or only specific products such as an Apple Watch, Apple TV, iPad, iPhone, or Mac. Tap a result that interests you to view the associated support article.

Articles come complete with how-to steps, troubleshooting tips, screenshots and links to try to help you resolve a problem or understand how to use a product. You can also share an article via email, messaging, social network and other apps and services.
