Experience an all-out adrenaline rush as you drop down huge wave faces, pull into barreling tube rides and pull off hundreds of massive trick combinations and signature pro moves. This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Every once in a while, a program comes out that should have it's own category on VersionTracker. This is one of those - it crashes on launch 100% of the time. The update solves nothing. I wish I had taken the money I spent on this and lit it with a match - at least I would have been warmer for a few minutes.
LITTLE HELP OR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FROM ASPYR

Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Have been trying to get ASPYR to assist me with the install and upgarde download for the Kelly Slater game since recently purchasing it from the company. At first install, the labelled registration/serial number was incorrect on the package. Called ASPYR on it with no assistanec whatsoever - they juts referred me to the upgrade download. Followed their instructions and downloaded, unstuffed the more recent application.
The app worked, but not at all as expected. Very slow to load and the app will quit after only a few minutes of play (last count 3- waves ridden, then the surfer chosen doesnt just wipe out - the whole app quits. Let me preface this by saying, I am on a 1.8Ghz dual processor, MAC G5. This machine meets (and exceeds) all system requirements posted by ASPYR.
Called ASPYR on this new issue - as of today (12/3/03) - no help whatsoever. Their rsponse was to say that the ASPYR Help Desk does not have a G% to "walk me through" the fix. They instead referred me to the Apple Support / Help desk!!!!
I find this unacceptable and totally unprofessional. If ASPYR is manufacturing and selling games for OSX - they should have the machine capability at their Help Desk to provide customer assistance.
The frustration level I am experiencing has not peaked yet - will give ASPYR one more chance to assist me with correcting and fixing the app so that I can doi what the software is intended I do - have fun and enjoy the game.
Will update with further comments (hopefully positive ones on the behavlf of ASPYR).

Not working too well, keeps getting hung up just trying to get through the intro movies before even loading the game. Every once in a while when it actually loads the game, it's pretty cool. Not sure if this helped, but I set my resolution as low as it could go and colors to thousands on both of my monitors. I'm using a 64MB Radeon ATI card, I have almost a Gig of RAM on a G4

I hate how the camera forces angles on you when you get in the tube. I want the cam to stay behind me but sometimes it just decides to swing around in front. I want better cam control in general.

They make the drop-ins way too easy and non-critical. In real surfing, there is a narrow window of opportunity for positioning and timing of a drop in, this game doesn't reflect that vital aspect of the sport.

The controls are nuts and I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to do b/c the demo instructions are lacking. When I get in the tube a control comes up and I have no idea what keys I'm supposed to use at that point to maintain balance. I don't have a game controller and using the keyboard default settings is awkward and sometimes it seem the controls don't work properly at all

The demo is pretty limited so it could be that there are much more options in the actual game that I think are sorely needed to better reflect the challenges of surfing. But if the actual game is close to the demo... it's really not a good reflection of the actual sport. For instance, In real surfing, in many conditions... just timing the sets, positioning yourself and paddling out and getting past the impact zone is a sport in itself. I'm not seeing that stuff in this demo.

That said, I still think this is the best surfing game I've ever seen. Hopefully, with enough input from real surfers who play this, it can evolve into something that comes closer to the actual surf experience.

On another note, I don't know if a bunch of people are downloading this or what.. the download speed was horribly slow w/ my broadband connection. They may want to do something about that.
